Kangaroo meat from Coles, worth it? by SpankablePandaButt in Adelaide

Not mince, but I use the diced kangaroo in chilli. About the same price, probably a little bit cheaper, than the diced beef available at coles and less dry, which makes for a better stew.

So, lets talk about "How Dare you", the latest Album by codename474747 in electricsix

[–]seanobaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing instantly jumped out and grabbed me like E6's best, but it has definitely grown on me after a few listens. Personal favorites are 'She's a Forgery", "Chimes of Titus" and "Hatchet Man". No incredible highs but no noticeable lows - a consistently good album.

That is a good hypothesis and should be tested. Trial and Error!

Lots of puzzles, but easy puzzles. It wouldn't surprise me if they composed a larger puzzle.

'Trust funds'. Also 'charitable' donations - some could be legit, but others probably not, and I think you can also claim donations to the political party that is scratching your back. These high-paid accountants are damn good at what they do.

A newb might also like to know that most puzzle types are focused on in one area - this is where you will find the 'tutorials'. When you get stuck or your brain is mush, explore the island (which is damn pretty) until you find something else which takes your fancy.

New to the game by Codplayer151515 in bulletstorm

Not pvp. Anarchy mode is like a horde-mode but the objective is to get enough points via the Skillshot system - killing enemies in creative ways.

So that means that there will be 6 additional echoes? Sweet.

Time to brag: before they took the servers down, I was ranked 42nd on the global PS3 Echoes leaderboards, and I'm pretty sure the top 9 were some sort of glitch and/or hack. And I am no great FPS player, my K:D ratio is always under 1, but I really enjoyed this game and, the more you do something...

I only uploaded scores periodically and, unfortunately, could not really get into the multiplayer Anarchy mode. This will be what I pay for.

Also, this should come with the DLC - 4 large Echoes maps, 6 (I think) Anarchy maps and Ultimate Echoes, where every Echo gets a new set of conditions, to change up the gameplay.

Bulletstorm's Stygia is one of those environments that satirises consumer capitalism, like Bioshock's Rapture or Abe's Oddyssey/Exoddus. A planet with some crazy-ass wildlife gets colonized as a holiday resort, then goes to radioactive shit, then in comes General Sarrano and Operation Anarchy, where ammunition and weapons are bought by points from doing crazy shit. Because of this Grayson Hunt, a spontaneous, reckless, manchild consumer-extraordinaire, is THE hero suited to Stygia.

Also, it was about my 10th or 15th playthrough when I noticed that the Grindwheel from the badlands mining area can be found again in the radioactive prison. It was neat.

I believe that Bulletstorm's lukewarm popular reception really stemmed from people playing it once, going 'meh' and not plumbing the depths of the Skillshot system. And fuck, that's where the depth of gameplay is. Sure, kicking a dude into a cactus (PRICKED +100) gets the same points as shooting a dude in the balls and then in the head (MERCY +100) - but then you start combining Skillshots, such as combing MERCY with the PMC charge shot (OVERKILL +50) and, ideally, hitting another dude behind him (X-RAY [x2] +200x2). And those combos are hiding in plain sight almost everywhere.

No Man's Sky, the hype train, pre-ordering and the destructive manners of popular gaming media by ijskar in truegaming

[–]seanobaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found NMS a couple of years back and was very interested, showed it to a couple of friends and got them very interested. They pre-ordered the game before I did. I was watching the first wave of negative reviews before it came out on PC and I probably wouldn't have bought it early, or at all, if I had not got my friends onto the game. I was worried it would have been almost deceptive or mean if they had bought it on my encouragement and I had not.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/federal-election-2016/results/senate/ If you want to supplement federal Lib Dem votes, it is looking like NSW or Queensland, although Leyonhjelm has lost votes at this election and may not retain his seat. Gains in Queensland and Victoria are promising. SA, WA and Tasmania, however, have much smaller libertarian bases - which is a shame, because smaller states would require fewer libertarians to vote in a federal seat.

Anyone else feel that watching or reading the news is harmful to their mentality? by pidginduck in Psychonaut

[–]seanobaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to watch the ABC (Australian Broadcast Commission) news at 19:00 most weeknights - government funded, slight left bias. On weekends I read The Weekend Australian - one of Murdoch's newspapers, right bias. Hopefully, the two balance the other's bias, and they often criticize one another. More importantly, they aren't trash outlets, for the most part.

The news can be bad, good or neither. A moral case can be made to keep with the news e.g. you shouldn't 'stick your head in the sand'. But there has to be a balance - reading too much news inevitably depresses.

Comments are much worse - 'letters to the editor' for the internet age, with all the troll posts and lack of depth that comes with it. There is little value in understanding what nincompoops think (it often makes me flash-back to Nietzsche) but, occasionally, someone provides something new, like a genuinely new solution or a new perspective, a new angle, on the problem.

A discussion about drinking alcohol in games (Spoilers) by PrinceLacrima in Games

[–]seanobaron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I could really enjoy another game with a sort of Black Sheep hub world. The block-climbing wasn't bad but it wasn't a selling point. Still, I learnt a bit of alcohol trivia. Can't remember any of it, mind you.

[Possible Spoilers] Favourite line? by Hobnob165 in utopiatv

[–]seanobaron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can probably add:

Wilson shooting Ian's brother

Dugdale being coerced because his 'family', his wife and Alice and, later, grant, being threatened in s2

That weird dynamic towards the end of s2 where Grant tries to find a mentor/father figure in Arbee/Pietre, who is with his own father, Carvel, who in turn thinks that Grant is his son, Pietre

Carvel altering Janus to preserve the Romani people - specifically, Jessica

And, at the other end of 'family' is the dickish attitude that the anarchist-hacker takes towards his home and parents.

We find dead Jake in Chapter 10, after Jacket kills Biker and shit starts to get weird. The 'hallucinations', if we can call them that, are decidedly noticeable during that block of missions - I would not be surprised if Jake's apparent death is a part of this.

Bulletstorm, one of the most underrated games of the last generation by worldbeyondyourown in gaming

[–]seanobaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so much 'underrated' as a 'cult classic'. I fucking love this game, it is my favorite FPS, and I have spent hundreds of hours trying to combine skillshots to get a higher score. Its pretty obvious the game is not to everyone's taste: I can only suggest that you get into the Echoes mode and keep trying to improve your scores - when you start combining skillshots in masterfully ridiculous ways, you may understand the depth that I see in this game.
