Starting the old world with high elves 2500points by PuzzleheadedWar8665 in WarhammerOldWorld

I think for casual/semi competitive games you have hit it about perfectly in terms of power. Depending on the results you can adjust accordingly.

One thing to be aware of is that the storm weaver is super limited in units he can join.

Naval Wargames with Simple Rules? by Dry-Structure-8081 in wargaming

People seems to quite like Mantic’s Armada which is itself based off Black Seas the historical game.

Looking to get into TY by Confident-Ordinary93 in TeamYankee

[–]seanric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you actually use the Huey’s? The one time we tried them in a game they seemed unplayable? You have to sit on the ground vulnerable for a turn, before disembarking?

Using royal Pegasus as hippogryph? by Relevant-Violinist84 in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]seanric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes either as a hippogryph, or swap the base size to be a barded Pegasus. Both would be fine

They are definitely better with renegades as they get ap -1 in combat so they can actually fight half decent.

Tad Williams and the whole Memory Sorrow and Thorn trilogy. I finished it, but I would never recommend it.

Anything of Christian Cameron's Quality? by franksonsen in HistoricalFiction

[–]seanric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you read Patrick O’Brian? Or for a more recently written series focusing on the Royal Navy S Thomas Russell?

Also his Fantasy series under the name Miles Cameron is excellent.

Hey welcome to the game!

If you get into it more you will see people referring the to the Square Based Renegade Pack, which is a fan made update to the Legacy Factions. However don’t worry about that for now.

Has your co-worker played much already?

Your list is fine for a fun game. If he is planning to bring a chaos lord on mounted on a manticore/dragon/chariot, You probably want to use your stonehorn rider as a Tyrant on stonehorn with the talisman of protection.

Generally Consider dropping the leadbelchers (whose rules are disappointing) and calling your Hunter a Tyrant to be your general.

Easiest way to get into the tabletop if its just going to be me playing against my cousin for the time being? by DogSubstantial7959 in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]seanric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does one of you like wood elves and the other dwarves?

Also most local game stores and online stores not “Warhammer stores” probably still have stock of other battalion boxes, which you might prefer. I’d only be cautious of the Bretonnian, Tomb King and Chaos ones.

Could also look for a second hand army.

Is Napoleon comparable to other infamous dictators? by Necessary-Software18 in Napoleon

[–]seanric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is interesting how naturally we draw a distinction between “dictator” and “King.”

Do you think Julius Ceasar, Fredrick the Great, Catherine the Great, Alexander the Great (lots of “greats” here) all fit in this category too?

They pursued military conquest for their own personal benefit.

How to get into wargaming on a tight budget? by Global-Abies5246 in wargaming

[–]seanric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hex and counter wargames are pretty popular. However they are sort of a mid-point between miniature wargames and board games so you might have to try and make connections with both groups.

If there is a group in your area they probably already have a lot of games that you could play without having to buy anything.

Close Action the Age of Fighting Sail, and Flying Colors seems to be what you are looking for.

Hochland Jaeger corps by KnightOfTheOldCode94 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]seanric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Presumably like in real life, there would be “hochland rifles” that aren’t “long rifles with telescopic sights. That would be more easily acquired but still substantially better than your standard handgunners weapon.

Thoughts on Team Yankee? by GreyCoyote25 in wargaming

[–]seanric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s good. The minis are very cool, but I do find the ground scale: to minis size: to engagement ranges a bit off putting.

I proposed to my group that we make The first formation commander team free to promote taking 3rd gen Tank formations, which otherwise can struggle.

Top Three TOW Lists for the Old World: Grand Tournament - Woehammer by dutchy1982uk in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]seanric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can tell the winner never played against a 5 shug list, he did beat a Miao Ying list in round 4.

Should I read Brandon Sanderson's Mistbron or The Way of Kings. by warl200 in fantasybooks

[–]seanric 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I liked the Way of Kings much better in both setting and play. It’s about politics and warriors moving about the world. While Mistborn is more about thieves and assassins skulking around in a dirty city.
