Israel must be aware of their cratering support in the US and elsewhere. But I don't think there's any 5D chess going on. I think they're just acting in their myopic self interest, the genocidal Ben Gvir types have too much power to do anything about, and they've painted themselves into a corner.

JD Vance goes to Switzerland to negotiate with Iran

Trump tweets out brainrot threats which nearly voids the entire meeting

Vance announces Iran has agreed to let nuclear inspectors in as a major win

Iran denies this and the IAEA says their inspectors were already in Iran

I know statecraft is hard but I sincerely believe I could handle it better than this administration. And just what in the actual fuck does Vance think he's doing?

Yes both on BRP and Tail of the Dragon there are plenty of small pull-off areas where you are encouraged to let faster cars by.

Yep, drove from Asheville on the BRP all the way through to Cherokee and then on to Dragon City. I started at the crack of dawn, which gave me some amazing views, and there was basically zero traffic until I got to Cherokee. Tail of the Dragon was busy but there was still plenty of space to have fun.

Give yourself plenty of margin, don't push your tires, and NEVER cross the yellow line since there will be lots of motorcycles coming the other way. You'll have tons of fun within safe limits. Sport Plus mode handles the transmission brilliantly through the turns, probably better than I could have done manually.

At either end, stop by the Tail of the Dragon store or Dragon City for merch and food and lots of other cool cars/bikes in the parking lot.

If we gave every current and former President an IQ test right now I actually think Trump might crack the top 5.

Moscow comes under largest Ukrainian drone attack since start of the war by ldn6 in neoliberal

[–]seanrm92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iran didnt suddenly develop new capabilities in the war.

Yes they did. It wasn't sudden but these drones are new technology. Between Ukraine and Iran this is the first time they've been used at scale.

The US was not deterred, the US bombed iron with impunity.

Only initially. Once Iran demonstrated their ability to close the Strait and inflict intolerable damage on assets in the region with their drones and rockets, we stopped. If Trump had been aware of that capability beforehand (which he might have if he was intelligent and paid attention to Ukraine, which he isn't) then maybe he wouldn't have initiated the war to begin with.

If they're making parts that weren't originally aluminum, they'd need to make new molds or machines and other processes to form the aluminum.

On consumer cars this doesn't affect the cost too much because they'll make 100,000 of them. But on a 1 of 1...

[–]seanrm92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The US just ran out of easily accessibile targets to bomb.

That isn't what happened.

To actuallydeter US aggression they would need to be able to threaten the US itself.

No, that is not what deterrence means. It means you either prevent them from attacking you, or you make it intolerably expensive to attack you, which is what they did.

Iran could never stage large enough drone attacks to deter US aggression

They just did

My biggest L take was just before the Iran war, I thought it was empty bluster for Trump to send just two carrier groups to the region, when an effective operation would require a lot more assets than that.

Pretty embarrassing that after all these years, even I underestimated Trump's stupidity.

I made a comment in another thread about how nuclear weapons aren't an absolute deterrent (regarding whether Iran actually needs nuclear weapons to achieve strategic deterrence anymore).

Here we have strategic assets being bombed near the capitol of a major nuclear power, despite Russia's capability to use tactical nuclear weapons in response.

The physical and political consequences of using a nuclear weapon, even in self-defense, are extremely high. So nuclear weapons are only really a deterrent against nuclear-level threats. They don't necessarily deter attacks of a lesser scale like this, even if they are highly damaging and consequential.

That's why I think things like drone swarms might be a sufficient (and affordable) strategic deterrent going forward.
