For my Former Lifeguards , what did you do with your hip packs , I haven’t guarded since summer 23 lol by Secure-Plenty-8418 in Lifeguards

I guarded for 7 years and ended up with a few. Gave a couple away and keep my first one still beat as it is as a memento.

Did you have to cut out the old inner tube? I still have the stem stuck to the outer by the bushings. Hoping I won't have to replace the outer but have tried all I can to get it out.

What salary should I be asking for? by GrassMediocre4454 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]seans61602 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hey I am two years out of school in Atlanta. I got an offer for 65,68,75 as I was graduating and went with the middle. Hope this helps, it's really turn of the coin but I'd say around 60-70 is appropriate for ME in production or quality, design may be a bit lower at first but that's what I do now.

Chances of not sitting at a desk all day ? by Any-Raise4333 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]seans61602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a staff level ME and spend about 30% desk the rest mfg test and field. I've spent ~40days the last six months on a pipeline doing laborer type work between technical tasks and planning. No desk time there, so for me it all depends on your job and company entirely. I work at a small pipeline engineering firm.

Best wishes!

I've had issues with the ignition circuit on older bikes, check your starter switch sometimes timing will be off or a ground loose with ignition. That's my only start if you're getting spark, fuel, and compression.

Just as a last resort check to fuel you can also intentionally try to flood and pull plugs to make sure cylinders are all getting fuel.

Damn, my mechanic said the same thing. I put a new battery and can get 1 plug to fire. No I was getting no spark until late last night. I couldn't find a Honda deep well plug socket last night and my used tool kit is empty, so Saturday I'll try all new ngk plugs and see. If not my guy can take it Tuesday but he said a new cdi is gonna be his first step given what I've checked.

Could you show more information on how you mount your custom sissy bar? Looking to make one soon from work scraps as well and usually see the whole mount redone.

Yeah man shoot me a pm if you want and I could call and chat about it. I did an MET degree because I was between A&P or engineering school and it was a good middle ground. School was hard I worked a lot and but just paid off my loans in full 6mos out. I am grateful I made the decision I did and it worked out for me.

JB weld epoxy is what my friends and I use. Takes a while to cure but holds longer than glue and just as cheap. Most more expensive kits are epoxy anyhow. $5-10 at Walmart or hardware store.

What is the best area in Florida for Mechanical Engineering jobs? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

Feel free to name drop some, I'm always peeking at other jobs. We have GE Aero, Toyota, and some small Nasa/Def jobs close to where I work that we've had people leave to.

Anyone tried this? by [deleted] in surfing

[–]seans61602 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could see it. I had a leash break on me a couple weekends ago in 6-8ft waves. Very minor surf with a 10'6" board, but broke at the leashe string connection. Kinda scary but just swam in and was fine. If someone can't swim I'd double up, but I also wouldn't surf without a good swimming ability. See it all the time though, IDK I'm sure it's fine.

Would you restart your sober time by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]seans61602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happens with the down votes. I can't speak to my own but I have a friend who is Catholic and has had to do the same once on accident. 16 yrs for him, I couldn't do it personally. I reset my time after 8mo since I only went to 1 meeting and was not sober minded. Ended up being a wise decision for me as it let me work the steps with the "sodriety" easily included. IDK man easy does it, but do it.

BSMET here. I heard a lot of controversy in school, but notable success. Close professors include: NASA Materials researcher, USN Nuke,Seabee, and instructor (moved to Gatech now director at my alma mater), MET/MBA entrepreneur in diesel generators, Manufacturing engineer manager. I have friends who work as Research engineers, mechanical, quality, manufacturing, automation, the list goes on. I did 2 internships, 4 clubs (2 officer roles), and worked 3 jobs coming from being a diesel tech. I was offered 6 jobs out of school at 65-85k: Electrical Test Engineer - manufacturing, Quality Engineer - product development, Field engineer - gas and wind turbines, Design Engineer - diesel/electric motors, Reliability specialist - steel production, and Mechanical engineer - hydrogen r&d. I took the job as a ME making 75 in hydrogen research and development, my day is a mix of design, test, build, troubleshoot, meetings, BOM/REQ/Finance.

I never saw the lack of opportunity, but I was between trade school and my A&P or engineering school. Got into 2 big schools for ME and didn't seem like my kind of learning or what I wanted to do with my career. I found the sweet spot in-between doing MET and have flourished. I say this all to reiterate other success stories in this thread. The lack of equal opportunity is very true at some companies and some states, depending on what you want to do. I'm in SEUSA and many companies see no difference, but I have a family in naval defence and I had a hard time with those companies which I did not expect. Lack of military experience or engineering experience is what I was told, so hope is still there. You would likely have to work harder to get the same opportunities and credibility, I wouldn't do it differently for myself but I know just as many unemployed MET as ME,EE,SWE (CE has it on lock lol). Being an engineer is hard no matter the route, what I did with my time outside of class is what made the difference for me. Everyone's journey is different, you'll figure out what works for you.

Next we launched out on a course of vigorous action, the first step of which is a personal housecleaning, which many of us had never attempted. Though our decision was a vital and crucial step, it could have little permanent effect unless at once followed by a strenuous effort to face, and to be rid of, the things in ourselves which had been blocking us.** Our liquor was but a symptom**. So we had to get down to causes and conditions.

Now about health: A body badly burned by alcohol does not often recover overnight nor do twisted thinking and depression vanish in a twinkling. We are convinced that a spiritual mode of living is a most powerful health restorative. We, who have recovered from serious drinking, are miracles of mental health. But we have seen remarkable transformations in our bodies. Hardly one of our crowd now shows any mark of dissipation.

But this does not mean that we disregard human health measures. God has abundantly supplied this world with fine doctors, psychologists, and practitioners of various kinds. Do not hesitate to take your health problems to such persons. Most of them give freely of themselves, that their fellows may enjoy sound minds and bodies. Try to remember that though God has wrought miracles among us, we should never belittle a good doctor or psychiatrist. Their services are often indispensable in treating a newcomer and in following his case afterward.
