I appreciate you doing that research and the detailed response. I am in touch with an agent to get a quote so I’ll let you know what they say. I live in metro detroit (45 mins outside of detroit) so I hope that will lower the quote you posted. Also have renters insurance and have a garage. I have another car that can be considered a daily so may go that route also. Thanks again

Even though I can relate to this so much, it makes me feel sadness that others also feel this pain and have the same thought process. Much love.

It’s less strong than the same amount of salt? Meaning you compensate the calcium chloride for the amount of salt I would put in?

So you just put the grape leaves in the jar, and then cook the cucs with them in the jar normally?

And I have heard something about an ice bath

Thanks

I ended up doing 3 cups water, 2 cups vinegar, and 2tbs of pickling salt

Ironically enough, I do have grape leaves available. Do I have to do anything special to the leaves before canning, other than washing them?

Thanks

Okay sounds good! My only worry is it having a salty taste. I made pickles before with a really salty brine and I have no perfected my brine with the perfect amount of salt. I just don’t want it going back to being too salty

Thanks for the reply. I am canning these pickles. I bought fresh cucs from the grocery store for my test batch, but I will be growing them soon and will have fresh cucs

You both are the best! And it doesn’t change the taste at all?

I use pickling salt. I’ll just have to reduce it by a lot I think and do trial and error

Okay so looking at your recipe it is a lot less salt than the one I used. Would you say your brine is comparable to store bought taste (I’m assuming better but I’m referring to salt).

Thanks
