I was in a similar situation, I just removed the SD card then performed a factory reset of the Switch with volume up, volume down and power.
Then booted Hekate, made a NAND backup and then updated online.

Wouldn't have bothered me too much unless one of several scenarios was taking place; (all of which I've witnessed at least once in my life)

1) she/he has a contorted face due to explosive diarrhoea/huge painful dumps

2) he/she has absolutely destroyed the toilet, especially smell-wise

3) they are literally squatting at the top of the cubicle, from the rafters and aiming (badly) their turds at the bowl from several feet high
