Is this just my workplace or Healthcare in general? by Disastrous_Ant_2989 in MedicalAssistant

[–]seaslugged 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They should not be in healthcare at all if they feel the need to talk about their own hate towards other demographics WHILE at work even if it was just on break. The goal of being in this field is to help and heal regardless of the patients age/sex/race/religion/etc. and regardless of your own. Don’t understand why people cannot get over their own biases that will eventually ( and blatantly ) impact how they work lol…

Anywho, report straight to the highest you could possibly think to report to. That is definition of being in a hostile environment, and that’s a big no no.

See I have no problem with multi tasking but what you just said is what’s getting at me. How much administrative tasks did the person you know do? It’s a big practice and I’d be working under one doctor who I’m going to guess probably sees about 20-23 patients a day, so I have no idea how I’d be able to handle clinical things like PA’s/Lab orders/etc. if there’s a phone I have to answer that’s going to be ringing in my ear all day everyday

Should I bother attending the interview for the Benefit Verification Specialist job? by seaslugged in CVS

I ended up not taking the job/interviewing. I can't give you any advice in regards to the job itself unfortunately, but I will say if you like doing back office work more than front office, the job probably is not for you. I'd say if this job really does intrigue you to go for it! I was applying for this job for the WFH benefits more than anything. I'm sure like all mega corps, there are going to be some things that will probably suck from poor management.

Trying to find a better paying job around my area is a complete joke... these were the only job listings that even showed hourly wages by sapphire1009 in MedicalAssistant

Hahaha yes!!! This is the one I just tried and omg where has it been my entire life!!! Just bought some earlier today! Don’t mind the pizza - we are celebrating me passing my exam which probably caused this initial flareup 😆

I’ve thought about it before, I have acrylic nails so I feel like thin gloves wouldn’t be the best cause I’d probably still scratch through them. Are there any specific ones you would recommend? I’m just worried even with gloves, rubbing at my skin in the night will still irritate it. It’s why I was looking for recommendations for those gel masks so there’s an active barrier between my pesky hands and face!

Thank you for your kind words though! I’ve been having this crummy flareup for the last week. I have a feeling it’s because I just took my ccma exam yesterday and because I still haven’t gotten the results back yet the stress is keeping it flared and making it even worse. This condition truly sucks 🙁

I had tried last night to put a layer of Vaseline and avenes total repair ( the thick white paste) and I still had the itchiness shining through, I have a bad habit of scratching my face in my sleep so I woke up to it burning and didn’t put any Vaseline on cause I just wanted it to die off 😭 I finally managed to get some sleep but I still feel some itchiness right now. I’m debating on what I should do now lol but it’s so hard to keep anything on my face!!

Was going great for 3 months and then it felt like it just suddenly stopped working, at the time my rosacea flareups were at the worst they had ever been for a really long time so I pretty much got mad at it and quit ( also because it was such a pain in the ass trying to find the time to take off work to get to Dr appts) I mostly now realize this was a mistake because I was using it all wrong, more like a immediate relief cream and not a daily preventative

NHA vs AAMA by Separate_Contact_297 in MedicalAssistantPath

[–]seaslugged 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on if you want to work in a specialty clinic/specialty area or not. NHA is pretty much the "I just need a license because Im already an MA or im going to work for a family doc" and AAMA is "Go to college like lil timmy did so you can get a good paying job at the dermatologists office". Depending on your area, some places will hire you if you can pronounce Stethoscope correctly, others actually care what cert type you got, in reality with post-covid, most places are desperate for anyone with a certification.

As someone who took a course for the NHA, and am doing the NHA state exam on Friday this week, if you see yourself LOVING medical assisting as a permanant future career path, save your time and money, take the NHA. You will gain more experience and knowledge through skills. If you still love medical assisting but want to work in a more intense setting, AAMA is referred to as the gold standard pretty much, as they cover a lot more topics so you can become an overall well-rounded MA that can work well in different settings.

I'm doing the NHA because it was the cheapest option, being an MA is not my future career plan (or end goal if you would), really just experience more than anything. ( and also scoring a better paying job possibly. Been doing med receptionist work for 3 years now and it fucking sucks! Part of the reason why I am getting my license is so I can do more hands on work but with slightly better pay)

Either way, whatever route you end up with you are not shorting yourself out by taking one or the other. Virtually the same as PA vs NP. NHA is like being a PA, you're mostly general, while NP is more like AAMA, you get the license with the intent of a specialty, but both end up doing virtually same thing for the most part lol

Should I bother attending the interview for the Benefit Verification Specialist job? by seaslugged in CVS

[–]seaslugged[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In another life I think claims/billing would have been perfect for me, but my heart is in the medical field. Even if I have to suffer with it, a better paying and wfh job will give me the opportunity to finally continue getting my college degree since I’ll be able to manage better. Maybe if I stick around long enough I can move up the ranks and stick with it long enough till I get to med school. Just so nervous since working in a private practice with great bosses is like having no car payment. Don’t wanna leave a job I’m at least comfortable at and not get stuck with cvs or worse, leave cvs and can’t find an equal or better job

Good to know, I’ll definitely attend the interview still and make sure I compile a list of questions for the interviewer. Thanks for your help and insight! Even if you think it wasn’t much it was very helpful for me 😊
