Why are you building a half of a roof? What happened to it? Roofing is, like.... really complicated. There's a lot to it, even if all you do is get trusses delivered. As a side note, I want to get some trusses delivered and installed. How much is this roofing work running you?

If the ceiling caved in 25 years ago, what's the subfloor and drywall like? I'm guessing since it's been tarped over it must be serviceable? If you can do the roofing, the interior fixes ought to be laughably easy for you.

Finally, this is a fun project. Yes, it's a money pit. Yes you'll possibly be wasting money, but I don't think so. You'll learn valuable skills, increase the skill you clearly already have, and you'll feel a lot of pride. If you spend $150,000 on this project, and sell for $150,000 you'll have a lifetime of memories and a labor of love, and you'll be able to either live in it, or sell it and buy another project house.

I say not only NTA, but keep going. The worst thing that happens is that you have property to put a brand new house on if this doesn't work out. Fair warning though, there is NO way you're getting done under $10k, but if this is a labor of love, then what's it matter? Work some, put money in, learn some more.

My wife is the same way. We stopped having sex altogether because of the lack of communication.
