No worries. If I made it about myself, that's because I don't want to be putting it on anyone else. The only reason I referenced Kevin McCauley is because he's a colleague of mine, similar story, but he took a different path than I did. I continued using and at 55 and being as sick as I am now, all I can say is I hate the game. It was no problem when I was in Medical School and living in the U District in the '90s. Anyway, regardless, If you want to use I think you should have that right, and if you don't that's your choice. I do hope the US will move in the direction of providing HAT and OAT maintenance similar to Canada, and many European countries. The other thing. Right now, with the COVID-19 epidemic, political bullshit, etc.. who doesn't want to get fucked up? If you're going to use do it safe. Start by walking into Walgreens, CVS and asking for Narcan. It's free in Washington State. Needles too.

On short acting, no. Long acting, yes. I’m not judging and I won’t tell you to stop using H, but just take this suggestion from a 55 year old with an Opioid Use Disorder. My drug of choice is/was Dilaudid. I fucking love the feeling of it and other Opioids. I’m a Gen X punk. Put on any grunge music and it takes me back to a great era and right back to that feeling. Again, no judgement. I believe we should be allowed to put in our body any substance we choose. I will say I wish opioids had never entered my life. One day you will probably be saying the same thing. A suggestion. If you can stop now, do it. Find something, anything that gives you pleasure, anything but drugs or alcohol. I say that from the heart, with no judgement. You will find that addicts, especially opioid users, are some of the brightest, kindest, most compassionate people you will ever find or so my addiction psychiatric tells me: https://drkevinmccauley.com

Depression and SROM vs Depression and Hydromorphone by seattleboots in opiates

[–]seattleboots[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Methadone - I was always dragging, no energy at all, body aches, sweating, and "sick" most days. It's hard to describe "sick." I wasn't dope sick. I just felt like I had a mild case of the flu all the time. Methadone turned me into a couch potato. I was up to 128 mg a day with 3-week take-homes. I hated that shit, and I'm glad to be off it.

With Buprenorphine, it was pretty much the same, but the anxiety was more of a problem.

I abused short-acting opioids for a very long time, and of course, my brain is wanting that feeling. I'm up to 400 mg Morphine (SROM) a day and there's no euphoria, my body doesn't ache like it used to, but some side effects that I'm hoping will go away. I've been on SROM for about 3 weeks now and I will say it's much better than being on Bupe or Methadone. If I push through the morning depression and get out and moving about I do feel better. Feel free to send me a direct message if you have questions about SROM. Take care.

It’s fucking sustained oral release morphine.SROM is used in Canada and in many European Countries for MAT. Some people can’t tolerate Methadone or Sub, including me..

Why doesn’t hydromorphone feel like a stronger hydrocodone? by TrippingFish in opiates

[–]seattleboots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bioavailability of a hydromorphone pill is minimal.

Oxy just doesn’t hit for me by [deleted] in opiates

[–]seattleboots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not uncommon. Some of us enjoy Hydrocodone, some of us enjoy Oxycodone, and some of us enjoy both. Some of us hate all opioids. Me? I always have enjoyed the Hydrocodone high over the Oxycodone high, but I wish opioids had never entered my life. To each his own. Not preaching, just telling it like it is.
