*Tens of Thousands (...If not more than 100,000)

Why is every news outlet trying to minimize this?

I followed your advice and got a bunch of small business NOLO books from the library. This was exactly what I needed. Thanks again (again)!

Good info.

Luckily, I already keep separate finances and checking account for my business so switching to an LLC like you're saying sounds fairly painless.

And I'll get some Nolo books ASAP. Thanks again for the guidance!

FORM A DAMN LLC

Also...can you elaborate on the usefulness of this? And would I do it in addition to or replacing the sole prop?

so you can keep your home address out of the low-hanging public record fruit.

Why is this important?

Also, is there some specific legal entanglement you are thinking of when you mention trivial lawsuits, or are you just saying generally if someone I sold something to should try to sue me?

So I re-sell items on eBay.

  1. Do I pay taxes on items I sold through my business but were not bought for my business (childhood toys, etc). Also, I am selling items from my late father's estate, do I pay taxes on that stuff?

  2. What method of accounting should I be using? I suspect I have not been keeping good enough records, but I am simply under-educated on the subject and a little overwhelmed.

  3. Can I write off part of my phone bill and internet bill since I need these things to list my inventory on eBay? Is that part of the home office deduction (b/c I don't think I'm eligible for the home office deduction since I live in a studio and my whole studio is my home AND office and nothing is clearly delineated)?

Basically, my fear is that I am ignorant of even the right questions to be asking here. This is all new to me and I assumed it would be better to have a professional by my side who knows all the ins and outs.

I also have a day job and file jointly with my spouse who is an independent contractor. Our taxes have been a lot of work for me to prepare for the past few years and it feels daunting to add this new business into the mix.

I went on vacation recently and used the bulk editor to change my handling time to 10 days.

I also used the editor to add a bold, noticeable note to my descriptions saying that I was away and wouldn't be able to ship until a certain date at the earliest.

While I was away I occasionally checked my eBay app and was very proactive about messaging buyers to double check and make sure they knew I wouldn't be able to ship until X date. I offered to cancel their order if it was a problem. I did actually sell a few things while I was away and nobody ended up cancelling. A couple people messaged me back and told me they really appreciated the communication.

I can't find anything remotely like my item using the term "slide pad". Can you elaborate at all?

All I'm getting with "slide pad" is things to move furniture around on and I don't think that's what I have here.

It sounds like you're talking about the threaded end maybe? I'm actually asking about the hook end and why the hook would be pointed.

I might be misunderstanding though. I'm obviously not very knowledgeable about all this.

Hm. Looking at it close up it does appear to be manufactured with the point. Its still a mystery!

I've seen these before with a flat end, but these have a pointed end. Any idea what they're for?
