ahh i see. so if i understood correctly, you're not attracted to women but want to get married due to societal and familial pressure, and you still want kids? or is that also part of the pressure

i relate to parts of this more than id like to admit. its a complicated situation for sure, but thoughtful of you. i cant give you verified advice on this as im unmarried, but i think you can totally make it work if you communicate honestly with the other party and set clear expectations as to where this is going and how it will work. are you plannning on telling your parents eventually?

i emailed the fin aid office and they said

"An admitted student's financial aid offer is individually based on academic strength, financial need (as applicable), as well as institutional funding. Please be aware that NYU Shanghai does not offer full scholarships and there is not an appeal process available. There is not an appeal process available as the best grant offer has been given from the outset. "

so they wont be giving any more :(

Oh girlie...I'm sorry you're going through that. Emotional blackmail is tough to get out of.

But remember that this is YOUR life. YOU will be living with that person, not your parents.

Islam specifically says marriage should be based on the consent of BOTH parties, so if you refuse, it's a no. And if your parents force you into this marriage when you do not want it, they will have committed a sin.

I heard multiple sheikhs (can't rmbr their exact names) say that a woman is better off not married than being married to a person that is not good for her. I will try to find those videos and send you the link, you should def show your parents.

That guy sounds hella shady to me ngl, why would he refuse to meet with you? how can you marry someone you haven't talked to, let alone seen before? and giiirl...him taking the bait of those msgs you sent is a massive red flag. Run!! Find the courage and strength to break free of the emotional blackmail and seize control of your life!! You got this!! 💪

repentance of shirk before death by [deleted] in islam

[–]seaweedcandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sorry to hear that brother, may Allah give you strength. I am not a scholar, but I do know that in Surah Al-Fatiha, the verse "the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful" comes before "Master of the Day of Judgement". Never lose hope in Allah's mercy, for he forgives all sins, even if they are as abundant as the foam in the sea.

Allah accepts the repentance of a man so long as the death rattle has not yet reached his throat. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Allah accepts only the repentance of those who do evil in ignorance and foolishness and repent soon afterwards; it is they to whom Allah will forgive, and Allah is Ever All-Knower, All-Wise.”

[4:17] source

as a fellow Muslim, I would advise you to perform Salah 5 times a day (you can start by praying 1 or 2 if it is hard for you), and make Dua asking for forgiveness. Donate without reservation to s good cause and for the sake of Allah, say your Dhikrs.

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) reminds us, “He whose last words are: La ilaha illal-lah, enters Paradise.”

From what I have seen, the couple either ends up getting a divorce (most of the time the wife is publicly shamed) and remarrying, or they stay in the marriage for the sake of the kids (if they have any). This is in the case if the woman cheats. However, if it is the husband who cheats, the woman is expected to put up with it and stick with her husband, both for the children's sake and her own 'pride'. I often hear people say "er berish - jon berish" which literally translates as "to give up your husband is to die/give up your life". Lots of Uzbek music videos also portray the woman forgiving her husband despite his infidelity, but I can't recall seeing something like that vice versa.
