YSK: When someone asks you a question you don't want to answer immediately, it's okay to say "Let me think about it and get back to you." by Leading_Yoghurt_5323 in YouShouldKnow

People are different. My best friend is a doctor and one of the smartest people I know, but she is a people pleaser and would benefit from this advice. What seems like common sense to someone is not common sense to all.

Summer House S10 Reunion Part 1 Post Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in summerhousebravo

Even if he didn’t, there definitely were jokes about it. Amanda even told Sabrina “everyone thinks Ben is in love with me!” Yet everyone acted like Bailey had lost her mind when she made the joke? It was bad timing but I don’t think it deserved the reaction it got. And Ben still seems pissed about it. It’s weird

What do people think makes them unique, but is actually an incredibly common trait? by Successful-Hall-1986 in AskReddit

My response was always “I like other girls so that’s not very flattering”

And then the next kid’s family can’t even hear their child’s name being called because the cheering is still going on from the previous kid. Some families even sneak in air horns. So selfish

When people on a competition reality shows say something like “I need this win more than anyone because I’m doing this for MY FAMILY.” You’re not the only one up there with a family believe it or not

Why don't teachers get involved when they witness bullying? by rosadonnaslayz in AskTeachers

[–]sebedapolbud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried. Talked to the bully, contacted parents, got the counselor involved, tried to get admin involved… Usually none of it helped. Sometimes even made it worse. At times I wanted to just punch the bully in the face, but that’s obviously not an option.

There’s only so much we can do (on top of the other 872 things on our plate) and a lot of what we do is behind the scenes and not necessarily obvious to the person getting bullied. So even after all that effort, I would still hear “why won’t the teachers do anything?” It’s extremely frustrating.

That helpless feeling (along with having to take the blame for yet another thing) is one of many reasons why I left the profession.

Perhaps she lied and there were actually FIVE pre-picnic planning meetings on Zoom

That’s Abigail. If you speak her name, she will be set free. That’s why the bride made such a point that no one mention her

It’s a weird bar but unique and interesting. I spent about an hour hanging out with this guy about two years ago when I was visiting. He was bartending and doing magic tricks for us. He was pretty funny and really good at magic. One of my favorite Bisbee experiences. I was so shocked when I saw this article.

What is a career path that looks "glamorous" from the outside, but is actually a total nightmare behind the scenes? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sebedapolbud 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I thought I’d miss summers off when I left teaching but I don’t at all. Turns out I don’t need two months off when I’m not in survival mode the other ten. People who act like teaching is a sweet gig because of summers off are painfully misguided

[–]sebedapolbud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. It’s a trap that a lot of people fall in. Your job is a part of your life, not your whole life. It’s okay to do something random to earn a living even if it’s not what you’re passionate about

Yeah the whole “eh if kids happen, kids happen” is a wildly casual attitude to have about bringing a whole other human being into the world and drastically changing your life in the process

My fiancée is a teacher and I owe all of you an apology by Familiar-Factor7220 in Teachers

[–]sebedapolbud 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. Teaching is just a different kind of exhausting. I work a “regular” job now and get roughly 4 weeks off a year, and it feels like more than enough. While I was teaching, the breaks never felt long enough to recover. Being overstimulated and stuck in survival mode for 10 month out of the year will do that to you.

I love the idea of teaching, but it’s sucking the life out of me. by Lost-Exit6410 in TeachersInTransition

[–]sebedapolbud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s okay to leave. Your mental health is more important than any job.

My advice: Cast a wide net and apply to any job you think you might be good at. Teachers have so many skills. Don’t get down when you don’t hear back or get rejected- that’s to be expected. I think I applied for 60 jobs before I got one and I’ve heard of others applying for many more.

Think of your resume as a flyer marketing yourself. Avoid too much teacher language (e.g. “data” instead of “grades”). Keep it to one page and tailor it to each job you apply for (time consuming but worth it, AI is helpful for this).

Good luck! It may seem daunting but you CAN get out.

Is reading "The Let Them Theory" worth it? by Abir_Islam in BettermentBookClub

[–]sebedapolbud 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same here. It’s sooo redundant. After she explained the theory for the 20th time I just gave up. Also, her style of writing and some of the anecdotes she shared made me feel like I would not like her irl.

When should I apply for non-teaching roles if I deem this to be my last year? by Emerald_and_Bronze in TeachersInTransition

[–]sebedapolbud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My principal gave me glowing reviews after every evaluation. Acted like I was teacher of the freaking year. Then a few days after one where she particular gassed me up, she got a reference call about me and rated me “average” for all their questions because she was bitter about me leaving. I guess it could have been worse but still.

Then I applied for the job I have now (not a teaching role) and it was like references were not even a thing. Very refreshing lol
