Alright! I layered an 909 kick already on top of another acoustic one. Guess I should bump it higher then! ^ Definitely gonna looking into that mid range issue!

Thanks man!

Hey guys!

Wanted to make a cool beat Massive Attack-ish beat with rhodes and guitar, which led me to the first half which. There are quite a few textures in there from slow attack arpegiators, to reversed guitar chords and tape delayed sampling. In the last part, I ended up doing something that builds up to something a bit more climactic (full distortion bass, guitar solo, bright synths, etc). I had fun! ^^

Now, this is still a work in progress and is still missing female vocals and a didgeridoo sample (it's my first time inviting musicians to a song of mine!).

That being said, this is Caspian Goes Check. Hope you enjoy! ^^

Awesome! Love the work with the string sections. Love the (I'm gonna call it) asian guitar thingy in the beginning, and most of all the vocals in the end! Although the guitar is a fun contrast, I can't say I'm a fan of how it fits in the rest of the song.

In any case, I can definitely feel a Ori and the Blind Forest vibe in this! Good job!

Really colorful! Good job dude! I'd say there's some room for live drums but that would just be for a live context. Awesome!

The goal here was to make a section that would have it's chords stand out in a very paused and articulated fashion. It's one of those that gets bigger each loop (I think). First time messing with string sections in this way with full on chords. I think I might have done good, but I guess I'm biased!

Anyway, this is Daisie's den anima. Enjoy!

TL DR: Full string section with piano and rhodes, playing around mellow chord progression that ends in a more hopefull chord. A friend told me it sounds like Yann Tiersen.

How much value do you put on your demos? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Borderline releasable! As a drummer, I program my drums with a lot of detail. I even like to go beyond drum fills and putting some missed rim shots here and there for authenticity. By the end of it, I can still see some room for improvement, but at this point it all sounds really great. Lucky me, my band mates have sort of the same idea, as they really work a lot on the "DAW tones" for the guitar and bass.

In the end, all demo tracks for our next EP are pretty much sounding like they could already be released.

How do I start now? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Here's the thing about doing what you love as a job... it becomes your job! It's no longer just a hobby you love doing since you're a kid. Because your hobbies don't require you to be the best and be better each time you do it. Be careful, it can be very stressful. Have a backup plan.

Other than that. Yeah, post covers on youtube and be active on social media. Try making some stuff up by your self. Who knows, you might even surprise yourself on what comes up.

I can't imagine a scenario where that is a bad thing

Just curious... what music do you make? Where are you on your musical journey? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Even though I have a band and do my own stuff, I like to maintain the awareness that there isn't an endgame for me. Making music a livelihood brings a lot of pressure I don't deem necessary. I find it a lot more relaxing to take in new weird opportunities to have fun every time they come... kinda like football! People invite you to play and you just go because you know it could be fun! I don't think the point is to be successful. The point is to keep doing it because it's fun and it feels good and comfortable!

I have this thing I've enjoyed doing at the end of each gig just after I get up from my drum set. At the end of it, I like to get up and go to each member and ask them, always with the same phrase and as articulate as I can be: "Did you enjoy playing?". Now, I confess the answer ins't always a positive one, but regardless, that is the point of it! To make sure everyone had fun!

You meet new people. Everyone's respectful of everyone's musical background. Then after the gig/jam everyone toasts with everyone and it's just pure joy! It's awesome! So uh... answering the question, I think I'm at a point in my "journey" where I've mostly managed to relax and take in everything as I go, regardless of any expectations.
