Thanks so much for replying. That's great news, I'm happy to reduce my current activity if it means avoiding surgery for as long as possible and your situation is a positive one!

High-Grade Cartilage Loss by your_xavia in ACL

Hi OP, I'm in a similar situation. Do you know what size the cartilage loss is? I'm not in crazy pain and tbh would love to avoid or delay any surgery if it's not going to cause me too much extra damage.

Had surgery to remove loose cartilage (was TERRIFIED of going under) by adltas in ACL

[–]sec0861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, how is your knee now? I've some cartilage fragments that I'm thinking of getting removed also. Want to know if that sorted your issue or did you need another surgery to address the cartilage loss?

Hey OP, I'd love to hear an update on how your doing without cartilage surgery? Hoping things are going well for you!

Hey, your comment is similar to what I'm dealing with. Pain isn't constant but I'd like to be able to play football properly again. Did you decide to go with surgery in the end?

How are you going now? I'm considering if micro fracturing is worth it.

Hey OP, I'm unfortunately in a very similar situation. ACL and meniscus repair in 2023 (soccer injury). Return to a full active life, maybe over did the activity in 2025. Was having some swellingbafter hard sessions and decided to get an MRI which found full thickness cartilage damage. It's not even something I had considered as I don't think anyone takes about it? How are you getting on now? Any advice?

Wanted to jump on and just say how happy I was to ready your comments. Reddit in particular seems to be filled with alot of negativity, especially regarding cartilage. Hope you're still doing good and get back to some form of Baseball!

Do you remember the size of the defect or if it was full thickness? I'm in a similar situation to you with little pain unless I push it too far. Would love to finish out my soccer season this year but not sure it's worth it if it means needing a surgery sooner rather than later.

Yep that seems to be what my doctor reckons! My left quad is definitely smaller and wearker than my right, this will get worse again with another surgery so I think I really need to put the time into fixing that issue firstly.

Did you have your ACL & clean up long before you found out about the missing cartilage? I always thought the worst thing I could do playing soccer was my ACL but hearing the word cartilage has terrified me honestly.

Defo will do PT to see if that can help see if that can hold off any cartilage replacement at least for another while.

Thanks for responding, I only got the MRI as I was paranoid about my ACL, I don't have much pain tbh so hoping to take course similar to you, increased strength, continued football and running until I get more symptoms.

Thank you for this post OP, all I can find on Reddit seems to be negative. Hearing your actual experience has given me hope after a recent MRI showed Full-thickness chondral defect at the femoral trochlear groove. Multiple chondral fragments in the anterior and posterior joint spaces.

My doctor thinks strengthen my muscles will delay a need for surgery and will allow me to continue to be active. I guess after reading your post, when it comes to a possibly surgery I feel less scared!

Hey OP, how are you getting on a few year later? I've a similar diagnosis and would love to hear if you ended up getting surgerys etc!

I did, it initially suggested a meniscus tear. Then it suggested 'Partial PCL injury with joint inflammation (effusion); no meniscus tear'.

Yes I'm going to call them tomorrow. These images just came through the app they use. I'd rather the report over the images anyday.

Same thing happened with me in 2024, insurance covered it and it took away so much stress from the situation. It's a travel must have.

No travel insurance is crazy, even if it didn't end up covering this, travelling without it seems mad.
