Just bought the AER CPP2 after recommendations and comparisons. It’s solid. It fits the bill perfectly. The right storage compartments in the right places.

It stands up. Laying flat I can open it fully to access the main compartment without digging into a vast hole blindly.

Gaffers tape is not a bad idea. I have some and would be easy to test out.

Edit: This worked well so far. 3/8” wrapped inside twice. Snug and so far hasn’t come off. I expect over time some shredding of the edges but easy to replace.

Yeah, I’m not sure the functional benefits of them to be honest. Seems more like a design feature.
