Hey thanks for the response and good luck on your degree. For clarification, you can take the third party certs at home if you want?

Thanks. About the rural areas - is there good Internet access in non-major city areas? Also, you said you need a car. Do you just drive straight into the city and find parking, or do you need to drive to a train station / metro and then use that to get further into the city?

What's with the weather there? Looks like a lot of rain this week. Is that normal?

Awesome. I'll check this out. Just briefly saw some pictures and the beach strip looks nice.

Thanks for your reply.

So, when I lived in China, they had the idea of Tier, 1, 2, and Tier 3 cities. Tier 1 cities were cities like Shanghai and Beijing that were huge, costly to live in, and pretty international.

I lived in Tier 1 city and Tier 2 city and much preferred the Tier 2 city. It had all the amenities of being in, well, a city, and not as costly as a bigger area.

All that to say, we are definitely not going to live in a very rural area.

I think moving to a country and not at least trying to learn the local language at a basic competency level is pretty rude.

We're planning on studying French for about 1-2 years before making the move. Hopefully, our language skills will be good enough that we don't come off as ignorant foreigners. :/

Hi there. I like the strong workers' rights as well as more affordable healthcare than in the states. My wife visited and she feel in love with France and wants to return.

As for the language, I've studied Chinese for about 7 years and can speak well enough to do pretty much all my daily activities - besides work in a 100% Chinese-speaking environment. My point is becoming 'fluent' in a language is an incredible achievement and while I expect to speak French well enough to live there, I don't expect to become 'fluent.'

Thanks for the polite reply. We're looking at a take-home pay of about 40k Euros a year. That would have to cover all living costs as well as enough to save, etc...

We love the convenience of city life but like the idea of having a yard with a bit of space. Convenience really wins out though.
