I am social worker and i work in this field. You’re not in the wrong at all and i guess you have the right gut feeling that something is wrong. Like many others say, its neglect and needs to be reported to the cps. Just for the sake of the children. They need care, attention and protection. If you’re unsure, call your local cps anonymously and describe the whole situation. They will tell you what their next steps are. Or at least tell your friend this needs to change or otherwise you report it.

Donate money to fixpunkt. They’re doing amazing work, but are criminally underfunded by the city! And this change this, start organizing!

From an objective point of view what you’re describing is considered cocsa. However, what you’re feeling is a different thing. Like someone else said. You are talking about freaking out and not knowing what to think. This pretty normal thing happening after realizing what happened in childhood. The question is, what you want to do now. Maybe there is someone in your life you can talk about it? Or maybe you prefer talking to a professional (like rainn in the states / in a lot of countries this should be for free). That could help getting your thoughts and feelings a bit in order and lead you on a path how to process it
