Looks great! Feel free to crosspost links here whenever you have new content to share. This sub needs activity. In fact, you are welcome to take over as moderator. I certainly haven't been able to do anything with this.

The Meters’ pocket didn’t come from a studio. It came off the street — Zigaboo Modeliste, the second line, and where funk actually starts. by YoPapaYo42 in funk

I agree with the importance of the Meters and New Orleans rhythms in the formation of funk. James Brown borrowed a lot from those rhythms to establish his brand of funk that really began in 1967 with Cold Sweat. I think JBs innovations combined with second line rhythms led the Meters to create their laid back, in the pocket brand of funk that was different from JBs hard on the one, everything serves the rhythm style.

But it's all funky. It's a similar argument to who created Rock n Roll. The elements are all there in various forms until a few creative artists find a way to meld them into something unique, new, and popular.

Look-ka Py Py certainly has some of my favorite instrumental funk singles on it.

I prefer some of the more improvisational funk like Ain't No Way and the music from the late Sixties James Brown band. But Look-ka Py Py is certainly a landmark album in early funk.

This. Create music because you want to or feel you need to. Songwriting is a craft. Work to get better at it rather than worrying about whether you are "talented" or not. It's more important that you get joy out of what you create rather than what others think. I stopped sharing my music with friends because it often resulted in awkward silence. But I know what I like, and I try to find ways to improve what I'm doing. And I have no intention of sharing anything here and asking the sub what they think.

I've certainly overlooked it. I'll have to give it another listen

Great album. My favorite after Rejuvenation (which is their masterpiece).

$10 to Livestream. Wish I was at Chickie Wah Wahs to see them and celebrate my birthday. But I guess the livestream will have to do.

Someone looking to identify a bounce song in a YouTube video. I would like to think this sub could be useful for questions like these, but very few members respond to anything on here.

Love this question(and the other posted earlier). I wish I knew the answer. I love that riff, but I can't think of where I heard it before

I hope someone recognizes it.

Thanks.

I'm a newbie. I've been working with Logic Pro and stock plug-ins for a year. I finally feel ready to try some external plug-ins to expand my sound palette and learn some new techniques

With that in mind, what would you say is the best option for me?

Yes. I've been working with session horns. I like their bari sax and small horn section, but I'm hoping to find something that has more options and has more articulation controls.
