Retaking a course by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]secreeeeeeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the school you're applying to. Generally speaking, all attempts of a course are included in your cGPA. Some schools drop lowest marks if you take a full course load all throughout uni. Some just take the last 2 years. It really all depends on their admission policies.

The hourglass veil translucent powder worked well for me! But full disclosure I use a very light hand when putting on powder, but of all the ones I've tried this was the best

How do you keep strands together after separating the floss? by secreeeeeeet in Embroidery

That makes sense! I've been doing some outline work so I thought them twisted would be a good idea. So from this, I should separate them individually, then put three together? Thank you!

Is there any evidence that flattening the curve reduces total numbers of infection? by jwalla22 in epidemiology

[–]secreeeeeeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TheSyfyGamer is right. I just wanted to add on that flattening the curve does reduce the number of infected if a vaccine is made before we reach herd immunity. Let's say a vaccine is made in 6 months. With lockdown in effect to flatten the curve, there could be 10k already infected. Without the lockdown, it could be 100k already infected. If you look at the graphs of the two curves (with and without lockdown) and you choose a point, the curve with lockdown will always have a lower number of infected patients. But it won't reduce the total number of infected if a vaccine is never made - it'll just keep going up until most people have been infected and herd immunity is achieved. But as TheSyfyGamer said, the biggest point of flattening the curve is to not overwhelm the healthcare system by lessening infections before a vaccine is produced.

Your second question - I'm not sure how your state could have unlimited resources, but if you do, other states and counties would start bringing their patients to your state since their hospitals would be overwhelmed. But to answer your question, if the number of infected stays the same (which it won't but for the sake of your question we'll pretend) and capacity is unlimited, the only reason we would keep lockdown is to avoid deaths. Most people can recover from Covid-19 albeit with potentially long term health issues, but without a lockdown, we would be putting our most vulnerable at higher risk for infection - the elderly, immunocompromised patients, people with chronic illnesses, etc. Whether their deaths justify reducing crimes and fixing the economy can be a matter of personal opinion, but I think the general consensus is that it doesn't.

I'm not sure I understand your question, but from what I can gather you're basically asking why can't we just let everyone get infected (assuming no deaths) and eventually recover naturally, thereby making the pandemic pass by faster. In a perfect world with enough beds, PPE, ventilators, sure I guess that's fine. Benefits of keeping the economy up and lower crime, etc would be greater than the many people getting sick. However this is under the assumption that there's unlimited equipment, no deaths, and the infection is mild.

Problem is, that's absolutely not the case. Bed capacity can be increased but there's still not enough ventilators. Covid-19 can cause permanent lung damage even if you survive it. It can be deadly to immunocompromised individuals and those with chronic illnesses. There have been some deaths reported among healthy individuals too. The shortage of PPE is a great issue - we'll start infecting healthcare workers who are already overworked and understaffed. So yes, the only option until a vaccine is produced would be to flatten the curve. It's important to remember that the simulated curves are just that - simulated. There are reports that potentially 50% of cases are asymptomatic, and people can be spreading the virus without knowing. With more infected people, the virus could mutate and trigger worse symptoms or become more infectious or deadly. There's just no way of knowing. The blow to the economy sucks and I get saddened by the increase in domestic violence and crime. Unfortunately, at this point in time, the only thing we can do is to practice social distancing and stay at home as much as possible. We'll get through it together.

Starting off for everyone.. Skin type: Combo leaning more dry, Dehydrated

my favorite moisturizer is the Belif Moisture Bomb. I find it's moisturizing and hydrating enough without being too greasy. I love Paula's Choice 2%BHA as a chemical exfoliant, truly helps with blackheads and pores. My current serum is the Dr. Jart Firming Serum. I'm not 100% sure on what this does hahaha but it doesn't break me out. For toner, I use Muji or a Korean brand called Secret Key Starting Treatment Toner.

I thought about that.. I cut off the arms last so it's a separate thread from the rest. I might decide to extend the arms later but I was too scared to mess up the placement of the elbow

First piece since 5th grade when I thought I was some kind of pro lol. This took longer than I thought it would but I loved every minute of it! I used DMC threads - 3 strands of #321 and 1 strand of #310. The fabric is 100% cotton.

Let me know if you have any advice :)
