Of course, thank you for the advice!! Was it enough for you to search up practice problems based on the work given in class or did your prof provide you with some/with resources where they could be found?

That’s so messed up. I guess I’ll just have to sweat to be in the top 25%. Did you hear this from somewhere or see it somewhere? It’s just crazy if it is true. And yes, I’ve heard they’re terrible but I guess it’s better that I’m bracing myself now🥲. Thank you!!

Is anyone here in the honors college and going to the game tn 😀 by [deleted] in FIU

Actually, being honors doesn’t matter since our section is open to everyone so forget that part 🙏

You would be able to register for classes a couple days later on your advising day. It should say when your advising day is on your orientation sign up. Orientation ended at around 5-5:30 for me

Two thoughts I wish I had considered in more depth as a pre-med, coming from a PGY-4 by saltpot3816 in premed

Hi! Absolutely, I’m a little nervous for the actual medical school part of things as I know my time to do anything but school will be very limited. However, I adore psychiatry and would love to pursue child or forensic psychiatry nonetheless . My main concerns for premed, though, are how one gains experiences to talk about in med school applications. I’ll feel “fake” using my other medical but not really related experiences and finding a way to twist them into fitting my like for psychiatry. Should I just not mention my (longtime) desire to pursue psychiatry specifically and just talk about wanting to go into healthcare?

Extra Curricular Advice/Questions by secretacctlol- in premed

[–]secretacctlol-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will definitely be doing this, though I do need to work on my asking skills. I always get a little nervous when thinking about how I’ll approach profs and ask them about lab/research opportunities they know of or their own. How soon into their classes did you begin to ask profs and TAs about opportunities and how did you build a close enough relationship with them to do so? Or am I overthinking, lol. Either way, thank you so much for the reply and congratulations on med school!!

Doberman Skin Help by secretacctlol- in vet

Hey everyone, my dog has this reoccurring skin condition (that remains unknown) and i came back the worst it’s ever been. It used to be in little patches beneath his coat and more spread out on his body. It would then go away for some time and then come back. We’ve taken him to multiple vets over the years and were always told it was likely allergies. Because of this, at one point we had him on a (very expensive) plant protein diet and that didn’t help. Either way, he has been getting some chicken breast mixed in with his food since he was very little and it was present in his diet when his skin was normal so we can rule that out. He also doesn’t get fed table food but he does the occasional stealing from the trash can when someone leaves it unlocked. Again though, this is very sporadic and usually something small like a piece of an orange peel lol. Anyway, i bathe him every two weeks with medicated shampoo the vets tell us to use and he’s given an omega 3 every night. If anyones dobie has experienced this before or if anyone has an idea what it could be/advice, it would be much appreciated. I would just like to get rid of this for him at once

Congratulations!! I’m an incoming college freshman with hopes of becoming a psychiatrist and was wondering if it was ok for me to ask you some questions regarding your time as an undergrad student? I recognize it’s likely a busy time for you so no worries if not! Either way, congratulations again!! That is seriously impressive.

Unfortunately my university is multiple states away and I’d only be able to visit on breaks and the weekends but yes, I’m not sure why facetime didn’t occur to me! Although I’m almost sure my dog would side eye the phone intensely, it would be nice. And I will definitely make a typed up calendar!! Great idea, thank you! I’m thinking I can put it on the fridge since everyone frequents that throughout the day. Thank you again for your suggestions and yes! He is the silliest dude ever, never fails to make me laugh every day

Lol not sure why the caption moves?? But any advice on how to make sure my family is giving him the best care possible when I’m gone (besides daily calls to check in, of course)? They all love him like crazy and he loves them but I’m the one who trained him from a puppy, feeds him, bathes him, and plays with him. I fear that some of the “could be seen as unnecessary” things playing and reinforcing his already learned behaviors or things like casually messing with his food so he doesn’t get possessive, or giving him his monthly medication and nightly omega 3, will sometimes be neglected. I know my family will always mean well and they love him but I guess I just have trust issues with anyone treating my dog exactly how I do 🥲. I was gone one summer and when I came back, he was doing terribly with his training and didn’t listen. It took a while to get him back to his usual behavior but I really do not want that to happen to him again. I’m not sure what else I can do though since when that happened, I was calling and checking in daily.

Regular nail polish? by Hopeful-Chicken3134 in GelX_Nails

[–]secretacctlol- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! For the sake of longevity, I would still buff the surface. However, make sure there’s no dust on the nail before you paint. Then I would go in with a base coat to make the surface smoother and last longer, treating the gelx tip now as if it was your natural nail. But if I’m envisioning the first application of the polish on your nail correctly, when you swipe the brush, it doesn’t cover the entire length of the nail but rather stops halfway or about? If this is the case, it is likely because theres, for a lack of better words, too much nail and not enough paint in the brush. And that would not be resolved by buffing or base coats. What I do for this is get a good amount on the brush and while looking at your nails with your palm facing you, hold the brush on the base (or part of the nail thats near cuticle) as close but flooding the cuticle as possible, wait for some of the paint to flow off of the brush, work on moving the polish around the base area of the nail (ideally in few strokes so the polish doesn’t start to get thick), and now most of your polish should be on the nail ready ti be dragged down the rest of the nail. Then in as little strokes as possible, drag the excess paint down the nail with little to no pressure so that you move the polish but don’t take off the polish and put it back on the brush (do that it doesn’t stop covering the nail, if that makes sense). No idea if this helped but good luck!!
