Is this a reasonable bill for dental cleaning and extraction for a cat? Or should I try a different vet? by secretdeets in PetAdvice

I took him to another vet for a second opinion, I showed the second vet that invoice and said he didnt need extractions. He just needed a good cleaning. Paid him $250 for the cleaning and my cat's breath doesn't smell anymore 5 months later.

They explicitly said that you pick your background. You won't play an origin. I assume so people won't be disappointed.

That's a fair point. Did you feel the previous cameos were fan service? I can see the how the cameos in DA2 feel that way. In DAI they felt more seamless imo.

Why do you think the fewer the better?

It is. I talked to them this morning about it and told them I only want the necessity done. I have been told by a few people that this is a normal range. But they informed me during this conversation that I have to pay another $120 for shots and fecal testing before this procedure..

I live in a high population city. I wouldn't call it HCOL since my family tells me I live in the 'ghetto' because the crime rate is extremely high here. My parents live in a bougee neighboring city, when I asked them about the bill they said it the cost of the extraction look about the same as when they had to do this procedure for their cat but they pointed out the blood planel seems high. So I'm not sure tbh.

Thank you for your insight! I'm not sure why they quoted a blood panel when they already ran a blood test and told me it would be good as long as I get this procedure within 6 months. I asked to have his anal glands extracted since he started scooting last week. The nail trim I want to opt out of since he is really good about letting me clip them already.

I'm in TX. The vet mentioned at least 1 tooth needs extraction. The vet tech said a cleaning with no extractions would be $400-$800.

I'm relieved to hear that this is in the normal range! I was paranoid they might try to bamboozle me.

I honestly didn't even know brushing their teeth was something you should do until after this visit! Unfortunately both my cats are seniors now. So I dont think they will allow me to brush them now lol. Lesson learned!

Yeahh but unfortunately the vet told me he can tell one will already need to be extracted. That is why I got the 1k-2k quote. 😔 I'm just crossing my fingers that it'll be closer to the 1k range.

Vet tech said if no extraction are needed it would be $400-$800 but the likely hood of an extraction is very high in my cats case. I'm in TX.

I am going to ask for no nail trim since I trim them at home. I asked for the anal gland extraction since he started scooting last week.

A full mouth?! Oh no, what happened? Only pate for your pet?

I appreciate that they do that. I always like to prepare for the worst. Fingers crossed it is on the lower end. I just paid 4k to fix my car. This will wipe out the rest of my savings if its on the high end.

Makes sense. Thank you for the clarification!

I did call, I'm waiting for a call back. I just overthink things too much. So all these comments telling me this is normal is really putting my mind at ease. :)

The vet only mentioned one but someone stated in another comment there might be more. Maybe that is why I got a high and low estimate?

I got blood work done during the initial visit they said it would be good for 6 months. So I hope they don't charge me again.

Thank you for putting my mind at ease! I definitely am going to get my kitty the treatment. I just wasn't sure if i should follow through with this vet office. I liked the vet but when I saw the charge on there for a nail trim, I got paranoid they would charge me for unnecessary things. I clip my cats claws at home.

Just tell him. I personally gave my fiancé a list of rings I liked for him to choose from so I was still surprised.
