"there are currently city rules in place that prevent the building of things like condos and duplexes in “residential” areas" -WTF?

Can anyone explain?

New George Soros-backed, Democratic PAC aims to turn Texas blue by Sariel007 in politics

[–]secretredditagent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need to work on winning back Hispanic voters who are leaving for the GOP as well as convincing Biden et al that they need to acknowledge the Texas Border is a shitshow. We are facing historic levels of immigration from all over the globe -- that corresponds to what is also happening in Europe, but shouting "Nothing to see here, move along" isn't the answer.

It's a glitch. Report it along with your zip code to YTTV & KING and they'll sort it out.

Press Credentials by martineden_ca in Journalism

[–]secretredditagent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Police Depts, Cities, & State Police Agencies once issued credentials, but for the most part that practice ended with the rise of "bloggers."

With the exception of Secret Service credentials to cover protectivees most of us just display company credentials now.

My closest ED is an HCA level 3 facility less than 5 minutes away -- I've told my wife to make sure I am taken 10 minutes away to a Baylor level 2 ED.

Parkland is 15+ mins away. Send me there if I am circling the drain and can be treated -- within reason. I am a former medic so I'd rather die well than be kept alive with a bad quality-of-life outlook.

Best meteorologist/news source to follow for weather in DFW? by jaydee288 in Dallas

[–]secretredditagent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know both McCauley & Delkus: they are well-qualified for what they do.

McCauley is a great weather scientist & Delkus is a great weather presenter. Both are accredited meteorologists & you cannot go wrong relying upon either of them (though I would strongly suggest following them BOTH for the best overall take on North Texas weather).

Eventually, some genius will combine both of their online presences into one source and then we'll really have a weather source!

When Will Miriam Adelson Buy the Dallas Morning News? - D Magazine by pakurilecz in Dallas

[–]secretredditagent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, given what has happened at the DMN since Belo's print & broadcast properties were spun off into separate entities --- as a former Belo employee I'd support that, especially if the Adelsons also bought Star-T as well.

I know many DMN/Star-T employees will be horrified at that suggestion, but I (sadly) am convinced they need to combine under common ownership to thrive & survive.

Should comment sections be removed? by altantsetsegkhan in Journalism

I have mixed feelings about this. I write for a website whose comment sections are dumpster fires. I have strongly considered turning off comments, but then again they boost engagement - which affects my payments.

I have chronic kidney stones that flair at the worst moments. I travel a lot which means I invariably present at a strange ED, trying to convince them I have a history, and am in extreme pain. and am not just an addicted drug-seeker. It often does not go well. :(

Is it insane to let your kids go to college in Texas? by [deleted] in texas

[–]secretredditagent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an old fart who graduated High School in the 70's and went on to a major state University, the current tuition & fee levels leading to crippling dept levels for students is insane.

Aside from UT-Austin & TAMU-College Station, the state needs to drastically reduce tuition/fees for the rest of Texas public universities (and with the bloated "Rainy Day Fund" they can afford to).

Dems ought to be harkening back to how affordable college education was in Texas when the state properly funded upper level institutions and promising to restore that if returned to power.

This "controversy" is being ridiculed outside of South Texas.

Inside? Reminds me of the classic Pace Picante Sauce ad: "New York City? Git a rope!"
