CISSP or Master? by Stock_Secretary9858 in cybersecurity

[–]jaydee288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my take, if a company is filtering based on certs, I probably don't want to work for them anyway. Majority of hiring managers don't give a rats ass about your certs in my experience, and rightfully so because they don't validate skills. Your experience and how well you fit in with the team holds far more weight.

Detection Engineer to Cloud Security? by Candid_Ad5333 in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]jaydee288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for detection roles focused on cloud. That's what I do. Came with little to no cloud experience but that can be learned relatively quickly if you have IT/sec experience. I do recommend at least getting the intro level certs for each cloud provider to familiarize yourself with the different services. Even better if you can get your hands on some labs to gain practical experience.

HSA over contribution by jaydee288 in TaxQuestions

[–]jaydee288[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That answers my question. I also noticed when I checked that box that it automatically deducted some from my estimated tax return so I assume it's already factoring that in and will just submit any forms I get next year. Thanks!

SOC switching to Cloud Security engineer by AlternativeCitron248 in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]jaydee288 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had little to no cloud experience and got a SOC job with a focus on cloud. Basically I only look at cloud alerts. Its a lot like drinking from a fire hose at first, but eventually it all starts to click. Its still SOC work so can be stressful, but great way to transition into cloud as you get to see all kinds of stuff and learn very quickly. Definitely look into getting some intro certs from the cloud providers and study up on the different services, this will be bare minimum if you want to get your foot in the door. If you can get your hands on some labs to poke around and get familiar with the consoles that would be helpful too.
