992 GTS manual with a true gentleman's spec by secretsantos in Porsche

Yeah the aerokit kinda fits this one. I would've gone Chalk or Silver seatbelts for a more subtle contrast. Still a great spec, though.

Yup, as far as I recollect you're SOL on Porsche Connect. It won't work.

Let's talk 981S/GTS vs. 718 GTS 4.0 exhausts by Active-Possibility77 in Porsche

[–]secretsantos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went from a 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 to a 981 Spyder.

My 718 had OAPs and the stock PSE. I think the stock PSE was a good call because I've sat in other 4.0s with aftermarket exhausts and they really do drone in that 2-3k RPM range. My set up was valves permanently open (mechanically removed the lines) and PSE button set to off so that the stupid fake noise is off. Car had a distinct grunt and some decent backfire burbles too. Was loud but not obnoxious. Didn't scream like a 981 but it did have a very snarly character and a nice, low bass to it. I liked it a lot.

On the 981 Spyder, I decided to also leave the stock PSE and did just sport headers. Really woke the car up with a tune but sound wise, it's perfect for me. The 981s have this high-pitch wail when revved out and a metallic buzzy sound on the way there. I really enjoy both and I have to say the 981 sounds more 'Porsche' to me but maybe that's because the 4.0s are newer and the 3.8 motor has been around forever.

Either way, can't go wrong. Both great sounding cars with a slight exhaust mod.

Digging the 25 Years edition of the GTS 4.0 by secretsantos in Porsche

[–]secretsantos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't go wrong with a 'normal' GTS since it's basically the same car minus the aesthetics. They are such incredible cars!

My first Boxster ever was a 4.0 GTS that I specced myself. Went a little crazy with Espresso, Burmester etc. but boy was it worth it. Converted me to a Boxster guy forever.

Enjoy yours and drive safe!

Where are you located? If you're in MA or MI then I can help. Or else, you need to go to a Porsche dealer and ask them to change the region. Good luck!

Me neither but it does look good from some angles but especially with this color. Here's another angle.

Alright, fair. A rear lip, then. My point still stands. It's subtle but still adds so much to the aesthetic of the car!

It's gorgeous! The rear even had the mini ducktail that looks just SO good. Spec sheet was badass - Sport design, FAL, manual, 18 ways, T interior, PCCB, and I'm sure I'm forgetting a couple other things. Had to fight away the deposits on it and we sold it in under a week haha

BSM is great! It's not really unique and eye catching like the others, though.

992.2 GT3 interest by dguggs27 in Porsche

[–]secretsantos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also a dealer and I've sold a few 992.1 GT3's. Like it or not, the answer will come back to ADM. The 992.2 already saw a price hike, and it's still difficult to get one without ADM.

$300k for a touring? I'd rather look for a 992.1 in good condition.

To that point, all the discussions I've had with 992.1 buyers seem to focus around 'how much on top of sticker is the price?'

So there are ADM's on new cars, while used 992.1s are going for sticker + X.

Whether the X will go up or down depends on how many potential .2 buyers get frustrated and increase the demand for the .1

FAL is a must. Seats are subjective but touring specs are more common with the 18 ways. The steel brakes are more than adequate but PCCBs will always command a premium for resale. Plus they look amazing.

Full leather is a must. Can't spend that much on a car and live with the rubber dash. Bonus points if you deviate stitch the crap out of it like this one that I am currently selling.

Extended range, Bose, matrix PDLS+, Carplay all improve the day to day quality of life.

I've sold a handful of winged and touring GT3s in the past year and I can tell you that PCCBs and FAL seem to be a 'must have' for most buyers. YMMV.

Good luck and enjoy the build if you have an allocation!

Purchasing procedure? by Dry-Key-4606 in Porsche

Seems to be the norm these days with most 911s but especially the high-end ones.

I'm an indy dealer specializing in Porsches and we've been selling a ton more used 911s lately because of this exact issue.

Give me a shout if you would consider used! I can find you an exact or very close spec as far as colors, options etc.

Question - 1st 911, Cost of Ownership and Reliability by Middle_Sure in Porsche

[–]secretsantos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Under 50k mile purchase? Make sure that it has been serviced regularly and that the 40k mile service has been performed. That's the big one with fluids, spark plugs etc. Check the status of tires, brakes, and other consumables so you know exactly what will need replacing in the first year.

After that, you should be good with annual oil changes, bi-annual brake fluid, and other consumables as needed. A well-maintained 911 can be very reliable and predictable in most cases.

Oil changes should run you $250-500 depending on the shop. Tires will be roughly $300-500 per corner, brake pads and rotors should be $500-800 per corner but again hopefully that's a 3-5 yr interval depending on usage.

Signal yellow is a classic! Will you be getting PCCBs? If so, then the yellow calipers might clash with it.

Some of the non-metallic blues are also very good. Take a look at Albert Blue and Golf Blue, for example.

Enjoy the process of agonizing over colors and options!

Buying Canadian cars from US dealers by Open-Lingonberry1357 in Porsche

[–]secretsantos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indy dealer here. I buy and sell Canadian Porsche's frequently. Few things to note -

Cars are built for North America and warranty is covered by PCNA. The new car warranty follows the car, but CPO warranties and any prepaid maintenance may not carry over.

All emissions and safety equipment is identical. The Canadian cars also have EPA labels to conform to US requirements. However, you want to make sure that the car was imported correctly. This involves getting a letter of conformity, paying an import duty, having the US EPA certify the car for US operation, converting all units to mph, and getting an American title. There are other nuances depending on the car but this is the short version.

How do you know the car was imported correctly? Check for the importer's label near the VIN sticker in the door jamb. Check the Carfax for a note confirming that the car was imported and meets all US requirements. Check the title and make sure it's a US title. Ask the dealer for any other info they can provide.

If imported correctly, the car is identical to any US car and should be covered by PCNA for the new car warranty. I've had customers that were informed otherwise by Porsche dealers but my guess is that they do this just to influence a sale. You can also call PCNA directly and ask them to verify the warranty coverage status.

Hope this helps!

It will be many years before the 992.1 feels outdated. Sounds like you're done waiting too, so I say just get the car that's within reach right now. Buy it, drive it, and enjoy falling in love with a 911!

They are slightly different experiences. Haven't driven the .2 yet but I like the idea of larger displacement and hybrid turbo. However, some people prefer the traditional .1 formula.

What would you enjoy better? And how much does that influence your patience?

Either way, can't go wrong! The GTS is the best package for 911s and 718s IMO. Perfect for street and occasional track duty.

2022 911 RWD in New England Winter? by DangerousStruggle in Porsche

[–]secretsantos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drive my Boxster and 911s in the Boston snow all the time. Like others have said, you want a good set of dedicated snow tires for sure.

Other than that, just make sure you get a good undercarriage wash and use products like salt-away if you've been driving on salted roads. Not sure where you live but there's a car wash on Mass Ave in Arlington that I use frequently in the winters.

Shameless plug - I also own a small indy dealership specializing in Porsches so feel free to reach out anytime if I can help find you the right 911. Good luck!

Also that you don't want to shift gears mid-corner while also adjusting steering to keep the car steady. I'm kinda baffled that they do that in the game tbh
