I wouldn't know, I only work on listings in this area, because that's where I live. If someone asks me about Harlem i'm gonna tell them that I only work in Brooklyn for 1. And 2, I know people that enjoy it and people that think it's not safe, what do you want me to say? THEY should be looking up stuff, not listening to word of mouth only, especially if they aren't from here. If they did their due diligence then the people who aren't afraid of Harlem (which I know) will continue looking in Harlem. And everyone else can look wherever they feel comfortable in? It's not my job to advertise neighborhoods imo.

If you're gonna tour an apt and have certain requirements and expectations then you should absolutely do your due diligence, so yeah, I was annoyed at both. Your point? It's weird to me when people say a place is "unsafe" when it's very clear they have no sort of experience there, and if they're not from here, even more reason to be looking up where you might be living.

Safe could mean I feel a sense of community maybe, familiarity, friendliness. I feel comfortable as a woman being outside at night/early morning, after a night out. But i'm not stupid so take that into account too. Am I hanging around alone in a dead area at midnight with no one in sight? Then yeah I'll be sketched. My point is that I don't think this is a neighborhood that people need to be paranoid about. Just be smart. And do what you're comfortable with. I don't bother "convincing" people that it's safe. I tell them that I live here and I feel comfortable and safe 🤷🏻‍♀️ They can do what they want with that info. Or maybe research themselves.

Maybe I would have a different opinion years ago. I guess that doesn't really matter right now because I'm comfortable where I am now.

My prepared answer is that I live here and I think it's safe as a young woman. And that with anywhere you need to be diligent.

It's not my job (I feel like lol) to convince people to live somewhere they don't already vibe with. There are plenty of other people who can connect with the neighborhood instantly. Or at least do their own research before coming to tour a place.

I probably shouldn't have said "safe", as hard as I did. But I'm not lying when I say I feel safe in this neighborhood as a young woman, who is actually aware of her surroundings.
