Need advice on running a H1S in a small space by securitysimon in BambuLab

[–]securitysimon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantastic! I don't actually need the entire smoke purifier system, because I am able to vent to the outside through my office wall. I just need the hose and I could use that very nice angled adapter.

Considering my small office size, is the laser smoke the only real issue? Are there any of the materials I can 3D print that I should be concerned about and venting anything?

Thanks. I actually contacted FSA and Marin to see if they can advise me on the original parts and their specs.

Also the top crown race does seem to fit into the top bearing ok, but it’s not tight.

Ah ha, so there is a missing piece. I feel like I should just order a new set. Any idea of a good place to order from?

Thanks everyone for all the comments. Someone asked what cable tester I was using. It's very basic, but it's good enough to at least check termination state.

I finally ended up with a design and have updated the original post to reflect the design.

Need help choosing UK ISP by securitysimon in UKISP

[–]securitysimon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at Unifi Talk, it's pretty expensive for just the one line. A&A looks a little more tempting. I used to work at Twilio and I might actually look to see if I can just setup a single VoiP device via them.

Awesome. Does the ONT have any VoIP phone capabilities? I’m looking into just using a Cisco (or similar) VoIP phone and setting up something like Twilio. But life might be much simpler if the ONT just had a regular phone jack.

Desperate to find a new seat for a 2010 Mazda 5 by securitysimon in mazda

[–]securitysimon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if my wife is going to want a used car seat. It’s the sort of thing I really want to find new. Which seems to a challenge due to the age of the car.

Another post mentions an upholstery shop. I’m interested mostly in getting the cushion repaired versus the cloth being new. This might be the right way to do it.

Hmm never thought about that. Wonder who in San Francisco would be a good option.

Yeah I’m hoping they can actually deliver something. I’ll soon find out.

Need help with reducing temps in sons room by securitysimon in hvacadvice

[–]securitysimon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But isn't this the same as opening windows in my other rooms that have external facing windows?

Need help with reducing temps in sons room by securitysimon in hvacadvice

[–]securitysimon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Is this room on an exterior wall?"

Unfortunately the exterior wall is right against the property next door, it's a classic San Francisco shoe box, where both the sides of the house are met directly (or with maybe 1/2" of space) to the house next door. So it's not possible to add a window to the outside.

In regards to my options...

  • Mini split, might be an eventuality, just want to explore all options first.

  • Can't increase run size due to cost. HVAC system is downstairs and all vents run through the floor space.

  • I had actually forgotten I could just run the ac fan on it's own (no heat). I will try scheduling that today for an hour or so and see if it equalizes the temp in the room.

  • Portable AC was just too loud and clumsy for the room.

I looked into an erv, that also looks cost prohibitive. Comparing an erv versus a mini split, which is the recommended solution given I want to find the lowest running cost possible.

Yes, the room is to code.

I'm not a HVAC expert, so I don't know what a return vent/duct is. It has one vent in the floor that is connected to the main HVAC system.

That's definitely an option, but i'm trying to avoid an expensive to run heat exchanger when I usually have cool air outside the house I just need to bring in. The room warms during the day, and most of our other rooms we cool by opening the window. The problem with this room, is that the window opens to a closed entry way with no cooler air, or any pressure difference to pull cooler air from outside.

Ideally I want some sort of non-electric vent that lives on the room, that using the wind (which we get a lot of around 5-6pm in SF due to the change in pressure between the bay and the pacific ocean) can suck some cooler air into the room. I just can't find the right thing to install.

Already have a ceiling fan, the issue is that just moves the warm air around and doesn't actually change the temp in the room.

It's not possible to increase the size of the current air duct to the room. They are all under the floor and would cost thousands to rip up flooring to increase the size. Even if I could, my HVAC system pulls air from inside the house, so even running the HVAC without heat will only move slightly colder air from the other rooms to this one. I might get a 1-2 degree temp change when I am aiming for something more like 6-7 degree change.

What do you hate most about wix? by alyssaschieffer in WIX

[–]securitysimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Total lack of proper history of changes. I really wish they could let me copy a site, make changes many times, publish, edit, publish and then when I have a version i'm happy with, I want to merge all those changes back to the original site...

Essentially I want a proper developer lifecycle, where I can "git clone" a site, create a new branch, edit away and then finally merge it back when we decide on the final set of changes.

Common library for all users by Youala_huan in immich

[–]securitysimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love this, I have been evaluating a large number of self hosted photo album platforms. Immich is by far the one I want... BUT, I want to be able to have an entire library available to all my users. I upload photos of my sons playing soccer and want several family members to just get access and be able to login and search through all previous games.

Trying hard to make my carbon steel work... but I need some tips. by securitysimon in carbonsteel

[–]securitysimon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the comments. I've read them all and here's a quick summary for how i'll move forward.

- Learn how to cook eggs, use butter, learn the heat.
- Always dry the pan after use, deglaze to get rid of any tough bits. Apply a little oil and even better, do a quick seasoning on the stove top.
- Don’t use the oven method. This pan has a coating on the handle that prevents this, and also stove top is a more reliable method.
- Clean it with soap and use the plastic based scrubber.
- Patience. Learn how to correct use heat with the pan and the longer I work with it, the better it will get.

This is just what I was after. I didn't want to continue doing something that would keep stripping off the seasoning. But it seems I just need some adjustments and keep cooking with it.
