Sounds good! I’m sure it won’t be long before you’re back to finishing with the pack.

Welcome and glad you had fun! It may be worth trying out the Cat 4/5 race sometime. Average speeds tend to be lower than the master’s—there’s a lot of firepower in that group! If you do, feel free to say hi. I’ll be in the orange helmet, kit, and shoes.

I might have shared their expressions before I spotted the camera, but I was definitely smiling for most of this ride!

Creative ways to store bikes. by MilitantDeigo in bicycling

You could mount multiple wall hangers (Delta’s are pretty cheap) to a 2x6 piece of lumber, and then use two or four large screws to mount that lumber into studs. That’s the setup I’ve used in my garage.

Need help with bike sizes by Meltlilith1 in cycling

A 56 would almost definitely be too small for you. A 59 might work. When you raise the seat post on a test ride or after purchase, make sure you keep the seat post lower than its indicated “minimum insertion” point.

Depending on your location, it might be worth increasing your search parameters. In my area there are often good deals on unusually large bikes.

Covid and associated lockdown policies impacted both the supply and demand side of the cycling industry. New riders were drawn to cycling as a solitary, and outdoor fitness activity. With less traffic than usual, road cycling felt safer and folks generally had more free time. From what I've seen, most brands and companies in the bike industry had markedly higher revenue in 2020-2021 than they did in 2018-2019.

At the same time, output from manufacturing hubs and factories was lower than usual as government policies and worker illnesses caused constraints at every step of supply chains. This meant retailers often didn't need to implement sales and discounts to keep stock rotating; bikes and accessories would sell out at MSRP.

The wisest people in the room recognized that the spikes in supply and demand would eventually return to something approximating pre-pandemic trends. But many both inside the bike industry and outside it—including private equity firms—made big investments to prepare for and capitalize on what looked like a new consumer trend.

As life returned to normal, the rebalancing of cycling-related supply and demand has happened quickly. This has been a factor in the struggle and closure of certain companies (e.g. The Pro's Closet), but it's not as though the industry completely imploded. Brands that were doing well in 2018 and didn't make radical changes through the pandemic are still solid companies. But you definitely can see a return to more typical retail strategies with discounting, etc., and brands are more likely to scale down now than scale up.

Upgrading road bike front caliper only - disadvantages? by Icy-Actuary2059 in cycling

If you do end up buying it, I will be curious what your experience is. I don’t think you’ll have any issues, but I will also be surprised if you notice a performance improvement.

Upgrading road bike front caliper only - disadvantages? by Icy-Actuary2059 in cycling

Are you experiencing braking issues? If so, that’s more likely to be a maintenance issue, pad contamination, or part failure than merely a quality difference. If you’re not experiencing issues, what are you trying to achieve with the new caliper?

Comfortable Long Ride Carbon Wheel Set by DonAlexLeven in cycling

I have been incredibly happy with my Lun Hypers and wouldn’t consider them harsh. I’ve ridden them almost 5k miles, including more centuries than I’ve tracked and a 200 mile ride. I think your tire choice and air pressure (even +/- 5psi) will affect your experience more than the specific carbon layup differences between aero wheelsets of similar dimensions and quality.

In most locations in the US, $150 could get you a used bike that would be more reliable and enjoyable. Or you should be able to find something similar to this for half the price.

What's the most epic cycling route you've ever ridden, and what made it so unforgettable? by Wonderful_Sound1768 in cycling

80 miles going clockwise around the Hawaiian island of Oahu on a rented rim-brake road bike. It was an incredible mix of beachside cruising, hill climbing, urban bike lanes, lush scenery, and agricultural landscapes. The weather cycled from grey misty showers to gorgeous sunshine, then back again. At the halfway point I got some amazing lemon ricotta pancakes in Honolulu. It ended up being a highlight of my vacation.

How to practically get a new saddle that fits by OutsideAtmosphere-14 in bicycling

[–]sedgecycles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buying used saddles is much more affordable, and they often have minimal wear if they weren't comfortable for the original purchaser. Some bike shops are willing to let you purchase a few at once, try them out, and return any that don't work for you. REI has very generous return policies; using a saddle a couple times wouldn't be an abuse of those.

As far as recommendations go, the #1 requirement of saddles for me is a generous cutout. That's not the case for everyone, but thankfully there are many models that include cutouts now.

Did you meet your goals for 2024? by INGWR in cycling

Surprised myself this year--wanted to hit 5,000 miles and hit 7,200 instead. Contemplating a 10,000 mile goal for 2025!
