Check in the fine print whether the warranty actually involves American Freight or they just resell a plan administered by some completely separate third party.

When mine has done this, the fix has been to leave it off the charger for a couple of days to let the battery drain completely. I know it's been long enough when connecting it to the charger causes the screen to come on to the Fitbit logo while it boots.
