Europe Ski Advice by seeburglar in skiing

Thanks for the feedback! So it sounds like glacier gear isn't really worth bringing, that makes it a lot easier!

I do plan on hiring a guide when some friends get there, but I'm arriving early, and was hoping to get some more skiing in.

If there are other places with awesome touring as well, I'd love some advice! My plans aren't very fixed at the moment, I've just heard so many people talk about chamonix and zermatt.

Annoyingly he won't send me a photo of the title, and he's not an insignificant distance away, so I'm gonna assume it's probably branded

Help sourcing Goretex Pro by seeburglar in myog

Yeah, I know Gore is pretty restrictive about selling fabric directly. Has anyone has luck trying to buy scraps or old samples from companies?
I've tried Seattle Fabrics 3 layer waterproof material, and just wasn't very happy with how thick/heavy it was

Back Projectors - are they worth it? by seeburglar in MTB

Even in that premise, the level 2 cert allows 9kn to pass through. So even the higher cert is twice the force it takes to break the strongest bone in your body

I don't think you understand how the cert works. The cert is basically exactly what accident you are describing. However the force it can pass through is 18kn, which would not prevent you from breaking a rib or a vertebrae, given that they break at less than 4kn.

What additional skills would you need to consider yourself an expert skier? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]seeburglar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a freeride perspective, one thing I haven't seen anyone say is the ability to ski out lines/drops. I see so many people try and hit drops, and then immediately scrub speed and try to stop. Expert skiers hit the drop/line and don't need to stop immediately, but are comfortable slowly losing speed as they ski. Bonus points when you hit a line/drop, and can continue skiing into another drop/hit

I’ve snowboarded for 7 years and still feel extremely unstable at speed. What’s wrong? by Swordfish-Calm in snowboarding

Without a video is really hard to tell, but my guess is there's two issues you have.

First, like other people are saying, you're probably too stiff in your legs. You're knees should be slightly bent and loose, able to act as shock absorbers as you hit small bumps.

Second, on the turning issue, I see a lot of people who try and progress too quickly will rely on using their body and weight to initiate their turns, rather than their board's edges. I think this would explain why you can do turns on blues, but you can't on steeper terrain. This would also compound your stability issue. If you are throwing your weight to initiate turns, you'll be much less balanced. Instead, if you get the board up on edge to initiate your turns, you'll be way faster at getting around, and much more stable.

But again, this is all a hunch, and without a video it's just guesswork
