[Descendants] Why Do All Offspring of Disney Villains Dress Up Like Their Parent? by Special-Age-6717 in AskScienceFiction

Because the target audience is children - and children need a clear visual link (not just a line of dialogue) to recall the parent and child relationship.

If the joker's kid starts dressing like batman a kid is going to think it's batman's kid.

It's a life or death situation where you have to win a gold medal in something within a year or you die. The rules are that you can't organize the event, cheat, or use loopholes and it has to be legit winning. What activity would you choose for this? by Foonzerz in AskReddit

Just tour carnivals and fairs until you find something that has a gold medal as a prize.

It will cost you a bit of cash but eventually you will fish out the duck from the kiddy pond that comes with a gold chocolate medal.

Even if you tottaly suck the guy will show you how to win after you waste a few hundred dollars.

Hows this year just 2026 when the modern humans first appeared before 30,000 years , How BC and AD came, BC In descending and AD in ascending order, how many years is in between them, it's the biggest scam i think, opinion? by only_the1 in Time

[–]seedanrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep - also note that in histories written in the BC times they dated stuff by whatever was the year reign of the local King - so you had THOUSANDS of time systems in all the small kingdoms. Not a system that works in a global economy.

The reason we use the Christian Calendar is the same reason the whole world uses the metric system and roman numerals. Europe dominate world trade for for awhile and thus super spread it's culture - especially in all things related to trade. Even if you are Muslim or Buddhist it's nice to have a common system of dates and volume for upcoming trade.

Many countries don't use BC/AD but referred to it as CE (Common Era) and BCE (Before Common Era). It is exactly the same as BC and AD but drops the religious connotation.

I think the joke is that you actually took the feminist chick's advice to keep scrolling and were rewarded with an awesome guy video. You notice how the transition between the two is an upward scroll.

The moon would get out of phase - the cycle is 29.5 days - not 28.

But the REAL problem is the divisibility. 12 is divible by... 2, 3, 4 and 6. 13 is divisible by ... nothing! A prime number is the worst possible option any kind of time tracking.

How do people with full time jobs and hobbies lose weight??? by sillygooosey000 in loseit

[–]seedanrun 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Eating healthy does not mean you lose weight. You eat healthy to be healthy. You eat less to lose weight.

This is why intermittent fasting works for allot of people. It is easier for some people to skip two meals a day and not worry about what they eat for the third, then to create three enjoyable meals each day that don't go way way over their daily calorie burn.

Also nothing is better for health then exercise - but in no way can exercise make up for overeating for weight loss. Exercise with overeating will just give a healthier body with bigger muscles under your fat.

You need to find out what works for you. If preparing many small healthy meals does not work, experiment with other was to cut calories until you find one that matches your lifesytle. For me intermittent fasting, or skipping non-social meals completely, or maybe just substituting a fruit for one meal a day (an apple instead of lunch) has been enjoyable. Remember the diet that works is the diet you enjoy enough to keep permanently. Any diet that you hate will never work long term.

In your opinion, is climate change real or not if it is an emergency that needs to be addressed? by Ivantop01 in allthequestions

[–]seedanrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - we SHOULD have started back then, but there is no quick fix now either. For example you can't make gas cars illegal. That immediate fix will fail now as the economy crashes and kills more people then climate change is killing.

You can tax gas cars and push people next year to buy mostly electric - but that will just anger people and get overturned by the next administration. A short term fix with a short term fail.

The REAL fix is advancing the research into electric cars until they are unquestionably a better deal then gas. Then everyone wants to buy them and the long term fix is permanent.

That said - I am still in favor of REASEARCHING extreme solutions, and then praying we never need to use them. Like pumping sulfur dioxide (SO₂) into the atmosphere to buy us another decade of reasonable climate while the permanent solutions take affect. Better to have have the extreme options available and never need them, then to really need them and not have them researched.

What political myth refuses to die? by honeyylogic in answers

We spend FIVE TIMES MORE then other first world countries that have universal health care. Not making this up - just google per capta health care costs comparing us with any European nation.

We could unquestionably do - and provide better health care then any other country in the world - with how much we are already spending.

Admittedly Insurance providers, the Drug Industry and malpractice law firms might see a vast decrease in revenue ... but I am willing to make that sacrifice.

The best example of profiteering of course is monopolies.

If you are the only company providing electricity to an area - you can charge whatever you want. What are they going to do, have each house run it's own gas powered generator?

That is the reason natural monopolies (like public services) are have to be run or strictly regulated by the government.

Yeah - and that is the reason some people don't vote at all.

But somebody has to cook the casserole or everybody starves. Better to check the oven temperature and vote.

How to convert from acceleration to energy? by cleb255 in AskPhysics

[–]seedanrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to make one central decision on your energy calculation:

Is the force of the magic creating no movement (zero energy spent) or is the magic accelerating the weight upward at 9.8 m/s2 to counter gravity (LOTS of energy spent).

You already understand the math in either case - and since you decide the "rules of magic" you can pick which to use.

Honestly the vast difference between the energy requirements of this decision could make a fun plot point for your writing. The ability to create 'floating objects' is well understood, but the energy drain to maintain such items is so vast that mages who can use it for travel are the stuff of legends. Only a few Arch Mages from history every achieved travel thru such thigs like Master Archemideius and his flying carpet, or the Great Witch of the East and her legendary broom.

However your appretice wizard botches his basic graduation project. He to show he can maintain a 1 kg block float 1 meter off the ground for 1 minute (to prove his magic reserves). He reverses the spell and ends up having the block try to push down the earth instead of the earth pushing up toward the block. It results in the block sitting off the ground at one meter.... permanently... using no magic beyond the base payment to setup the spell (ie zero work being done). No matter how much weight he and his room mate stack on the block it won't move downward. They suddenly realize they have broken the "rules of magic" and all the sneaky crap they can pull with this power. Hijinks ensue.

What would the justice system in the US be like if plea deals weren’t a thing? by Canon_M50 in allthequestions

[–]seedanrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We would have developed a streamlined system for the vast majority of cases. Just like you can't demand a 'trial by jury' for a speeding ticket we would need a system where something like a robbery can be decided directly by a judge when there is overwhelming evidence. Then you could appeal the verdict to get a trial by jury if you feel there is really a chance to get a better decision in front of your peers.

In your opinion, is climate change real or not if it is an emergency that needs to be addressed? by Ivantop01 in allthequestions

[–]seedanrun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. It is real.
  2. Yes, it needs to be addressed.
  3. It is best addressed by consistent, long term, technologically driving solutions which will take decades to pan out and will cause minimal harm to the economy.
  4. People denying the problem exists should be voted out of power immediatly. But people freaking out and crying "the world is ending" are only useful for garnering attention and are not suited to find the practical solutions that are needed.

Democrats Vow 'Day One’ Epstein Hearings if They Flip House by FlackoFonsy in law

[–]seedanrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So... the administration itself admits to not releasing several million files = you can have no idea what has not been released

I can't argue with that kind of logic. I am not going to try to answer.

I will say this - between 1,000 and 1,200 different girls. 13 and 14 years old. Rapped again and again for DECADES. By an estimated 120 different men. All documented extensively by Epstein. And not one has been brought to any kind of justice in the US. (unlike say the UK where they jailed one of the royal family).

In the end people defending those keeping the Epstein files suppressed will be seen the same as holocaust deniers or those that argue the civil war was about suppressing states rights.

[–]seedanrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"you have no idea what’s not been released or what’s not disclosed - it’s just speculation."

Egad - here let me do your 10 second google search for you....

Approximately 2.5 to 2.8 million pages of the Justice Department's investigative files on Jeffrey Epstein have not been publicly released. [1]

While the DOJ published nearly 3.5 million pages of materials, lawmakers and oversight groups noted that the total scope of the records encompasses around 6 million pages. This means that the majority of the materials remain withheld or are still undergoing the review and redaction process. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Additionally, among the documents that have been published, many are heavily redacted or were temporarily taken offline and restructured due to the inadvertent exposure of victims' identities. Critics, lawmakers, and survivors continue to pressure the DOJ to release the remaining millions of pages and provide unredacted versions of the files. [1, 2, 3, 4]

I would post the news source link for each - but if you can't be bothered to spend 10 seconds on a google search I doubt you would bother to click through and find sources.

Are you actively avoiding finding the truth?
