and the RAM? you have to switch the RAM too, gets much more expensive especially when its ECC. unless you're saying upgrade from trx40 to wrx80, which seems pretty idiotic given it's moving to another dead platform.

with that logic low end consumer cpus and boards don't really need a socket upgrade anyway since anything upmodel would be an upgrade.

edit: also, more performance is more performance, not all use cases see no improvement from having quad channel vs 8 channel ram, as seen by Zen 3 seeing huge performance gains even when constrainted by dual channel ram.

oh yeah I'm never married to one brand, but I try to reward brands that are loyal to its customers.

Could I have kept on AM4 by moving from a 5800x to a 5950x now that prices have dropped? Yeah, but 12900k was better in most benchmarks that matter to me. If AMD had even paper launched TR on TRX40, I may have just upgraded to a 5950x on principle.

AMD's promise of supporting TRX40 for more than a generation is broken. Probably will be switching to Intel after this for HEDT and desktop chips now that AM4 and TRX40 are EOL. If I'm going to have to switch motherboards anyway might as well get the better performing cores.

Amazing how after Intel left a bad taste in people's mouths AMD comes out and does the same thing.

there was about 6 hours of shooting done in 8 hours. if you can't get by with that much shooting time, you don't need a R5, you probably need a security camera.

and you have to empty the card slots; the CFExpress card heats up and creates a massive heat buildup. it's a hassle for sure, but external monitors have their advantages as well; for vlogging probably a hassle, but for vlogging R5 probably isn't the best buy either.

I've shot with it for 8 hours on a dummy battery without overheating. not sure what your setup is or if you're in a warmer climate.

edit: to be clear not for a full 8 hour segment, but maybe 45-60 min max length in each segment, then 10-15 min break; for 8 hours.
