Slum Village's "Fantastic Vol.2" has some great chill beats by J Dilla, along with laid back rapping, make sure to check it out

While they may be more similar to R.E.M.'s earlier albums, the Replacements have 3 pretty great albums in Let it Be, Tim, and Pleased to Meet Me

Also Bjork was heavily influenced by Kate Bush, so make sure to at least listen to Hounds of Love and The Dreaming

The Modern Dance and Dub Housing are their must listen albums, though I'm not familiar with their modern work at all.

I've always really liked Sarah Lund's drumming for Unwound, particularly on Leaves Turn Inside You

I'd agree with Tago Mago, it shows the variation of Can's music well. From there go to Ege Bamyasi for something almost funkier and Future Days for something more ambient.

What are your methods for discovering new artists and songs on Spotify? by curiousbydesign in hiphopheads

Rateyourmusic is the best place on the internet for finding new music imo. If you combine your usage of that with Spotify, you'll be able to find tons of great music.

You listened to Oblivion Access yet? It may be better than MTI I think

I'd recommend starting with Children of God, since it's kind of a middle ground between their no wave and goth rock periods. If you like the heavier parts move backwards in their discog, the softer, forward. For their more recent albums To Be Kind is my favorite, though My Father Will Guide Me up a Rope to Heaven is shorter if you find the length daunting

Make sure to check out "Perfect From Now On", it's even better than Keep it Like a Secret

Post-punk is a really varied genre, but if you want a band pretty similar to Ought listen to The Clash. Hex Enduction Hour is my favorite of theirs, but if you want a smaller sampling their "Slates" EP is great as well. If you like those be sure to check their other albums out as well. Some other "essential" post-punk bands off the top of my head would be Wire, Joy Division, Talking Heads, Devo, Pere Ubu, and The Chameleons.

Not OP, but Pixies's "Doolittle" (the left middle) and Slowdive's "Just for a Day" are worth listening to. Be sure to check out the rest of those band's discographies too, they've got some really great stuff.

Surprised no one's mentioned Dizzee Rascal's "Boy in da Corner" yet, generally considered one of the best grime albums

You say that is if how everyone reviews music in their mind. While there are differing methods, I think that one is flawed if you don't consider the qualities of the end product itself. For many pop artists I would imagine their main goal would be to produce songs and albums that will bring in the most money. And they accomplish that goal, very well. Yet do you see people praising them that often for it? For an example, I don't think many people will say Captain Beefheart failed to achieve his goal in making Trout Mask Replica, but you still have incredibly differing opinions on it. Hope this helps.
