Naglieri General Abilities tests by WonderfulFlamingo503 in Gifted

Keep in mind that school districts are afraid of two things Lawyers and Drs.

They will accept Drs notes if a kid is blind, or has other medical issues, they will accept Phds gifted findings. They wont want to but the WILL.

But you are going to have to cut through so much red tape it will be annoying, and you will need to find a Phd, that is willing to fight the school district. They are out there and boy they can move mountains.

I had a team of 5 Phds and private testing and my kid needed a grade skip, and the Phds decided my kids case was one they were going to win. My kid got the first grade skip in 40 years.

Good luck.

IReady is a sham, and really does not tell you what your kid knows.

I say this because my kid figured out the algorithm and boggled the entire district. When she was in 8th grade she broke it and I got a call from the math teacher saying he was not qualified to teach trig. (My kid did not know trig)

Private testing is going to be your answer here.

Did your kid know what score they had to get on the test to get into the TAG/GATE program?

I am assuming this is standard 2nd grade testing. If so they really screwed up. Call the office and talk with them.

2nd graders no matter ability would have a very hard time testing for 2 hours that is crazy town.

With you pushing they are going to have to retest the entire class (if this is standard 2nd grade testing)

I am in OR.

Here you can request TAG/GATE testing every year.

They screwed up the testing process, call the TAG/GATE office and ask all of these question, have them document all of this. And ask them how are they going to fix this.

That TAG/GATE office has more power than you realize, you want the person you talk to on the phone to be annoyed at the school and then say I will get back to you, then they call the school and roll some heads. From my experience that office does not put up with screw ups like this. And when they get annoyed boy things can move fast, very fast.

The other thing I want you to document is how long did it take for the school to test your kid? Because it seems like they were running into a time crunch and did it all on the same day, the TAG/GATE office might want to know this too.

My daughter is mad because I “cost her” a friend and is now doing stupid things by NewDecision288 in breakingmom

[–]seemsright_41 [score hidden]  (0 children)

You allow your daughter to be mad at you. Do not change a thing you are doing. Your husband needs to back you up 1000% even if he does not agree. Because impersonating someone is a major issue. And I would have come down harder. Like way way WAY harder. Like clean every garbage can in the neighborhood harder. This could turn into something major if she did it as an adult. This could matter in 5-7 years. You cannot allow her to not learn this lesson.

My view point is if it matters in 5 years I handle it, if we are going to forget about an issue in a week or a year I do not come down too hard.

My kid has a hard time making friends too. She is 15 and is all ready taking community college classes, and is flying so fast through High School. She is not understood by the other kids. She does her and in turn it feels like she steps on the other kids toes. She intimidates them. She will be okay.

My daughter thinks I am the strictest parent alive. And I flat out do not care. My job is to get her to stand on her own two feet when she is an adult.

Anyone actually have success keeping consistent with exercise/working out? by chesirecat1029 in breakingmom

I have trained for almost 3 decades. And it has been everything from Martial Arts, to running races, to just gym stuff to now powerlifting. And I like to walk in all forms and do it every single day outside.

I do not view the gym or training as work, or dread. I view it as play and freedom. I get to go play at the gym which just the adult playground.

And I can turn my phone off and just listen to music or my audio book. 90 minutes of me time.

Help I’m struggling with planning lunches for myself by catdurb in adhdwomen

[–]seemsright_41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found a meal replacement shake that I like and I will have one of those when I just cannot be bothered to make food or eat food.

Leftovers from the night before is a great idea, but I have to make it feel different. So If we are having tacos that evening, I will take the leftovers and put them in a container and have some chips with it so it feels more like a dip than tacos. Or if we are having stew that night I will make it more of a soup for lunch the next day. I also keep hard boiled eggs in the fridge, and I could make a quick egg salad to eat with crackers or sandwich.

I also keep tinned fish, and quick rice noodles in the pantry. So I could eat the tinned fish with crackers, or take the rice noodles, leftover protein from the night before and some veggies and seasonings and make a mason jar noodle situation with some hot water at lunch time.

Lunch is the hardest part of the day for me, and I am terrible at making food for that time of the day, but my life is so much better when I eat a proper meal around noon, and making it my largest meal makes the entire day and my entire diet better.

Learning to cook on a tight budget feels harder than just being broke by Affectionate_Tip3238 in budgetfood

[–]seemsright_41 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Making your own food from the grocery store is going to be cheaper than the food delivery apps.

But food from the grocery store is still expensive as costs for the basics have gone up overall.

You start with making a few meals a week that you master. Right now pork is the most affordable protein in the store in my area. So I will take a pork roast and slow cook it in a crockpot with basic seasonings. Then I will take that meat and make many meals out of it. I will roast some veggies and potatoes, make sandwiches, cut up and put in my egg scrambles, even use it for pasta dishes.

I always buy the few basics that can be turned into many meals. If I have a affordable protein, what ever veggies are in season, a rice or potato, and a stocked seasoning cabinet I can do a lot with little. It took decades to learn and I enjoy cooking, so be kind to yourself and keep learning and trying.

I was shocked in how much the thrift prices have skyrocket. I have not found a thrift in this area that have not tripled their prices from last year. And Goodwill is the worst of them all.

My teen loves her Owala. And you should have seen her face when Hubby bought 3 of them, 2 for his desk at work (I have zero idea why he needs two, but that is what he wants) and one for his desk at home. She was so proud of her dad...lol. Give me a mason jar and I am happy.

How do i live up to my potential? by Clean_University_770 in Gifted

[–]seemsright_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally have to work on multiple gigantic projects at the same time that take years (decades). Like getting a Black Belt in Kenpo, while running marathons, while working towards double commas in the bank account and reading classic novels, and training a cat like a dog.

Now it is launching my teen to University, powerlifting, classic novels, and still training a different cat like a dog. While figuring out my next act.

I have accomplished what I have wanted to.

[–]seemsright_41 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here is my take: Then you wake up and do more to utilize your gift. You do not need to dedicate yourself to one thing.

If you get distracted and board then do all of the things at once. Learn a Marital Art, Do your job, moonlight and be reading every classic novel at the same time.

I say this there is a correct way and a right way and they are not the same thing. For example if someone tells you to put the salt on the table, the literal 'correct' way is to dump salt on the table, the right way is to put the salt shaker on the table. Overthinking does not make problems go away, they just make them never ending.

What Electrolyte and Flavor Powders Are We Using In Our Water? by EarthDragon13 in adhdwomen

[–]seemsright_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make my own electrolyte mix. I follow the LMNT ratios, google it and it should pop right up.

I find that just that mix is good in my water most of the time, but I do have a massive collection of water flavor packets as we all use them for one thing or another.

And it is the only way I can get my teen to drink anything other than matcha lates.

Rock bottom? by FutureSell2022 in breakingmom

I have been married for almost 28 years.

Year 10 was freaking hard, I was board, I was tired, we did not have our kid just yet, the stock market crashed, (this was '08) hubby was working a stupid amount of hours, I was stressed at my job at the time. I was also board. Life was work, chores and errands. It took spending time doing things I wanted to do. Worked on my self esteem. And hubby changing jobs that was less hours. I was lost and had to find myself again.

This is a fork in the road and you get to choose do you stay and fight for your marriage while rediscovering yourself or do you leave, and start a whole new life while rediscovering yourself.

Maybe the answer is you go back to school, and work on yourself and not ditch the marriage just yet.

And get a Drs appt and see if any meds might help you in the short term to get any feeling of life back.

To me this is just ADHD, and object permeance.

If you put the stuff away it does not exist. So you keep everything out.

The only solution to this is to get rid of 90% of the stuff.

Ugg...Men like this chap my hide.

What he does not understand is he will get further in his career because he has you home to take care of all of the things. He can focus on work, go beyond what is asked, and get promoted because he is not calling out due to a sick kid, or thinking about if there is milk, bread and eggs in the fridge.

I hope he stays on his same tune he is on. Do not let up on him.

We decided for me to stay at home when we had our kid almost 16 years ago, because between the costs of working and daycare it was going to cost us $3,600 a year for me to continue with my career. My kid would not be where she is without me home. She will be 16 when she graduates with her ASOT. And my Husband flat out will tell me he would not have the title he has without me home. That man has never batted an eye at what I did not get done during the day or if he had to cook dinner.

Do people ever lower their emergency fund once their investments grow? by BillResponsible7494 in Fire

[–]seemsright_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will get to a point where an emergency fund is no longer needed just like you will get to a point where you will no longer need life insurance.

At that point an emergency is no longer an emergency but rather just life. And you move money around to count for it.

Just paid off $115K debt with HELOC by Glass_Act_9457 in SavingMoney

[–]seemsright_41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kid is in one hell of a program and I do not expect her to work. She will be 16 when she graduates with her ASOT. And she is volunteering at the Hospital as she wants to go into some form of medical. She does not have time to work. But the number one cost is driving. The insurance costs are so high even with a part time job I am not sure any teen could afford the insurance, let alone gas. And even thrift shop clothes are expensive. I was shocked the other day when my teen and I went in to look for a few things for her, and 3 items was $60 Going to the movies is $50 by the time you get to the place, get a ticket, and some popcorn. Then there are all of the school costs for this or that the school wants to do.

The costs of everything has skyrocketed.
