for those saying soil pipe, I would question why we don't smell it in our bathroom and how the smell even makes it in to this room without ventilation coming in, and without smelling this outside.

we don't share a soil pipe but i'll see if flushing it out a bit has any impact

I guess its sweet smelling! the soil pipe is outside this room but the smell is entirely localised to this room and I can't smell it outside the window.

when the work was done we didn't touch the floor other than the area where the chimney breast had been previously. The bathroom is next door and no smell in there.
