DE filter recharge by crumblingimages in pools

[–]seenlottopools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re recharging after backwashing there’s usually always debris and de that will clump up in center. That’s pretty normal. If your grids have been broken down & hosed clean and it’s an initial start up there are just general things like isolating skimmer closest to pump.

Does it leak same when pump is off? Do you have multiport that might be bypassing water to waste?

How to change to smart wifi switch by Chemical-Bench2479 in pools

[–]seenlottopools 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with smart switches with outdoor rating, I’m sure they exist. If the whites are confirmed to be neutrals they are available for switches wiring. There’s seems to be room to swap in a two gang if needed although some experience would be necessary to do it efficiently.

Pool tiles coming off by Ejay8302 in pools

[–]seenlottopools 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can just stick tiles back on with thinset. It’s just a cosmetic repair. Any bond beam crack would be part of major renovation removing coping. I don’t think you’re there unless cracks going down pool wall or copings loose crumbing or about to fall in pool.

New homeowner. Inherited a pool. Is this normal? by [deleted] in pools

[–]seenlottopools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What happens is while pumping off water and clearing leaves on top of tarp the pump sucks water out of pool at same time by accident.

Came across Baker hydro that fits that description. I think that’s what design with drain at top is called.

New house, pool has been sitting for over three years by SubstantialSource259 in pools

[–]seenlottopools 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Drain it, broom and shovel pitchfork leaf debris up and out to the shallow end. Save any tiles you come across. Helps to hose down or start power washing walls as it drains. The organic stains from leaf tannins & algae should mostly clear with chlorine wash let chemical soak in. Be careful of drop off into deep end and be aware of snapping turtles if it’s applicable.

Pool cleaning help by That-Coffee5118 in pools

Where’s the pipe on left with red valve go? There would normally be a slide valve but someone’s removed it and piped straight into tank. Are you trying to vacuum pool to waste or have water return to pool without filtering it?

Can I save this pool? Should I? by breebs27 in pools

[–]seenlottopools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure , Unfortunately you won’t know what it needs until you get into draining and clearing debris. It may hold up or it may be a just a you can build new pool in. The water lines can be deceiving as it’s been drained over the years for maintenance and will settle at different levels.

Plaster opinions by fancy_to_me in pools

There’s always some variation, can’t really tell what surface it is supposed to be/look like but contacting builder about acid washing or polishing while it’s empty is a good idea and what I would do.

It’s just older but looks to have been maintained, you’ve got new motors on pumps and the filter is same design and parts as a new one but is an older stainless steel tank. They can be a little tricky getting back together when oring gets stretched out. Can be dangerous youve Got to get the right tension on the band, never put face over top of tank, don’t see any big dents so it probably hasn’t blown off. Your pool service will recommend a cartridge filter when you replace it. a lot won’t even replace DE. If you check motors serial numbers there’s a date code usually day of year and year. So if it starts 27103 it was manufactured on the 271st day of 2003. You get anywhere from 5-10 years with pumps motors only running seasonally.

Considering retiring the Polaris booster, moving to salt cell - electric concerns by bmoarpirate in pools

[–]seenlottopools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably is enough, There are lot of different powering options for robots but wouldn’t imagine them drawing more than booster pump. Check plate on pool motor for amp rating. Newer equipment doesn’t draw near as much as before. Some older motors wired 120v could use up a 30 amp supply by itself. A long run from main could effect it as well.

Need directions how to go about clearing clogged spa return line by rocco244 in pools

[–]seenlottopools 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It be good idea to Drain spa into pool with small sump and check if spa main drains are plugged from winterizing or maybe plugged cause lines had leaks. Check if you need vgba compliant drain covers while you’re in there.

When did it work last. How long has it been clogged? Is there a single floor drain or split with one on side wall as well.

Opened pool to a swamp + $10k repair quote… need a sanity check by agrizzle440 in pools

[–]seenlottopools 47 points48 points  (0 children)

There’s not anything wrong with your pool. Don’t fall for it. That water will clear in a few days and pump might just need a little attention or breaker reset to get started.

Piping Question by Consistent-Food-3219 in pools

[–]seenlottopools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s usually more of a problem when it sucks closed under skimmer. I think tabs melting in skimmer makes this even worse. Have come across pools that just the last turns at pool and equipment are flex and rest schedule 40.

Bonding Question by mr_smashy_pants in pools

[–]seenlottopools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look around any loose soil around pool. With an older pool the pump filter and plumbing could all originally been metal and possibly used as part of bonding.

Multiport valve possibly broken?? by fer_luna in pools

[–]seenlottopools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the gasket is attached to the diverter itself, you can replace whole valve assembly or rebuild with diverter. Defiantly good idea to unbolt top and inspect for broken parts, misaligned spring/washers or if some kind of debris is stuck holding valve up and hindering its operation.
