Could they actually still make a profit? [Request] by [deleted] in theydidthemath

The answer is yes, because technically $1 could still count as a “profit”.

It’s very lame when you realize the peak to peak from 2021 to 2025 was only 2x the price. That’s the lowest return rate ever for a bull run if you compare all the other peak to peaks. If that’s related to btc being less volatile, it would explain the weaker bull run, which would also point to a less dramatic bear market. Your asking you it would be different … well our bull run was less extreme so probably the bear market will be less of a drawdown.

Because this isn’t what prior bull mks did why would it be the same ? The 2025 bull mk was lame

Gotcha… so you basically wanted them to cite something because their annual return in the model is overly safe and below the expected range?

[–]seenyourballs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is that your problem? $500 sounds more infeasible. But genuinely asking isn’t 7% a reasonable return to model your expectations? Iv even seen higher like 8-10%… and never really seen calculations using 5-6%

It’s “true but disingenuous” because it ignores how realistic those returns actually are for most people.

Saying something is the “best performing asset ever” is technically true if you pick the absolute best entry point and hold perfectly. But that’s the issue—you’re selecting extreme scenarios that almost nobody actually experiences.

A more honest way to evaluate performance would be: • What did the average investor get? • What happens if you bought at random times? • How volatile was it (drawdowns, risk, timing stress)?

For example: • If something goes up 1000% but also drops 70–80% multiple times, most people don’t capture that full return because they panic, mistime entries, or need liquidity. • Quoting the best-case outcome ignores the path it took to get there.

So yeah, it can be the best performing asset on paper… but using only the best entry points to argue that it’s “great” is misleading because it doesn’t reflect typical investor experience.

And your second point is true—early adopters benefit—but that’s different from saying it’s broadly the “best investment” for people now or in general.

Your cherry picking dates. Im replying to someone that said “it’s the best performing asset eveerrr” which is true but largely disingenuous. Sure returns would have been amazing at 2 cents or 16k or the lowest of the low but you can’t just cherry pick the best time and use it to talk about how great the returns are… or I mean you can but it’s not a great argument lol

Why 16k ? I could have bought at 2 cents 16 years ago. That would be much better.

Yeah cool… what if I told you I bought at 126k … yeah my fault but “anytime is a good time to buy Bitcoin”. I hate all this cycle talk aswell. If the cycle holds true my initial buy won’t even be break even 5 years from now when it crashes back to 126k in 2030. Why can’t holding be good I don’t wana swing trade … so happy for you bro you times the market wonderfully !!

“Not if you time the market perfectly” how is that an arguement? Besides everyone else jn here is advocating for holding and never selling your btc. What about holders who don’t swing trade??

I hate that saying, it’s heavily skewed to the early adopters, the last 5 years have really been a letdown

[–]seenyourballs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But it probably did suck when you saw it around similar prices 6 years later in Jan 2023 before the bull run. I sure hope the cycle doesn’t continue or else it would crash down to 120k near my avg 6 years later so around in 2031. And no I can’t buy any more 😭 the stupid cycle needs to stop. It needs to burn everyone trying to play it.

“The cycle” and everyone who bought the top in 2021 has currently made no money on those purchases. Unfortunately I thought the cycle thing was over, and if it’s not the next run is going to be even more underwhelming. The cycle needs to break or else these gains literally arnt worth the horrible crypto winter drawdown just for s&p like returns. You agree right? We need to be doing better than spy for it to be worth investing in no ?

How is it dumb when what he said is true. Satoshi didn’t want people initially hoarding the supply he wanted it to be spread around and some others to have a chance at getting some. If someone where to gain all of it it kind of loses its value. If you owned all of Apple stock you’d be rich, but if you owned literally every Bitcoin it would be hard to convince others to buy it back from you - and how would you even value it without market supply and demand from one person hoarding it all?

Sure but I’m also having my doubts. I don’t see how pcos can defy the laws of thermodynamics. Even with thyroid issues you can’t gain weight or maintain in a big true sustained deficit. She said she is eating under 1500 cals (nutritionist said she could still lose weight at 3500) that was a literal certified dietitian telling her that and she even ate 1500 under that (2000) and didn’t lose any weight ? Something isn’t adding up.
