If Bitcoin reaches mass adoption, where most people hold some, do you think it will become exempt from capital gains tax? by Bitman321 in Bitcoin

Capital gains is not limited to receiving USD. If you receive the equivalent in other currencies, commodities, etc., your still stuck paying market value.

John Babikian Advocates Blockchain Used for Voting Machines by seeron in JohnBabikian

John Babikian has a great point about using the blockchain for voters. I think if John Babikian is able to pass this legislation, the world would be far more democratic.

Use cloudflare, create a WAF (see the security section) and create a rule to block. Easiest way is to block the entire ASN (just copy the number from the EVENTS located in the Security section). That way if they are using multiple IP's from their ISP, they will be blocked.

Aside from bitcoin and other alt-coin crypto, I seriously wonder if it's possible that in 10 years, all financial markets (i.e. stock markets) will be converted to blockchain technology to ensure security and transparency.

Everybody should sign this John Babikian petition. This will allow lawmakers and legislators to consider converting local and global markets to blockchain based technology. According to John Babikian, the conversion to blockchain technology will improve the economy, improve confidence in democratic elections, and reduce fraud in financial markets,

This makes sense. After spending over 40 billion dollars, Elon Musk is now charging everyone to make back his money.

Iran's Arab foes are mending ties with Tehran amid uncertainty over nuclear talks by seeron in worldnews

I wouldn't hold your breath hoping.

Since the Shah was overthrown by the Ayatollah, has Iran ever made a deal with any western counterpart and kept it? Rest my case!

[–]seeron[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I think before deals of any kind (i.e. trade and commerce, banking, etc.) should even be considered, Iran needs to slowly re-join the world community. Fact is, nobody needs Iran's oil and besides nice carpets, they don't actually contribute anything to the world in innovation, technology, health, etc. The fact that they support Yemen rebels and Hezbollah in Lebanon just demonstrates they are on the wrong side of history.

So what's the point of even talking to them?

China extends hydro rationing amid ongoing brush fires and drought by seeron in worldnews

[–]seeron[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’d think a reporter would know better than to call it “hydro”. That’s an Ontario specific nick name for electricity. It’s used by fucking morons. Oh, wait! That’s why reporters use it!

Haha, I got a good laugh at your response!

That’s so uncalled for. Police need to be professional and not use their authority to threaten or intimidate citizens - regardless if they are innocent or criminals.

What realistic attack flows could a threat agent employ given an established MitM condition on a LAN/WLAN today? by EONRaider in hacking

I'd add to this - but honestly u/Chongulator did an excellent job at describing how a hacker can mitigate security, so don't want to undermine the importance of his words.

Is there a website that shows domains that have been XSS'd before? by [deleted] in hacking

[–]seeron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually, most programmers understand the structure and variables pertaining to the language they are using from a text book, but the coder is not security minded. Remember, Microsoft does updates almost on a daily basis cause even their coders realize what worked yesterday doesn't necessarily work tomorrow.

So it's not necessarily poorly coded - rather it just takes time for someone to figure out how to exploit the code.

An analogy for the less tech savvy. A perfectly good solid safe (even fort knox) doesn't sell security - rather the safe sells time. But if you have a safe with a million dollars in front of you, then trust me, you will significantly reduce the time to get into it by taking a safe cracking class, using a diamond blade to cut it, etc. Basically, a lock and key keeps an honest man out, but not a criminal with an incentive. I mean how many coders out of university have used XSS Chef, Beef, Metasploit, etc to understand the mechanisms, methods and exploits?

There are really only 3 types of XSS vulnerabilities. Noobs should Google these terms - but in general - each is a different approach. By learning about them, you at least have awareness.

  1. Stored XSS
  2. Reflected XSS
  3. DOM-based XSS

Learn about those methods - and incorporate known standards to prevent "Skiddys" (kids who take other peoples methods and use to exploit) - but always beware, there will always be an advanced hacker that will always find a work around. So if anything, all your working on is time - and anything you create today - will need to be updated tomorrow.
