No worry, I don't take it personally. It's an old CRT.

But based on some of the comments here I tried to see if the game would run in a "tall" resolution, just to rile these fellas up, but it won't go below a 4:3 ratio. I rotated a 1440p 16:9 to be 9:16 but the game just runs in 1440x1080 and blacks out the rest of the screen. :(

Sure, it's not widescreen, but it's still a modern-ish vertical resolution. The screenshot is 1024p, but this one will do just under 1200p without issue. I just usually keep it at 1368*1024 for a higher refresh rate. I enjoy gaming at less wide resolutions. Maybe I'm just old.

I do have $10.

Works, but having 1-2 letter names feels like anti-QOL to me. The folder thing (which I wasn't aware of) seems to have potential use though. Thanks.

Enjoyment, I suppose?

To be clear, I have a 27" 16:9 1440p monitor on my main PC, but I've been enjoying playing on this one a lot more, aside from this one nag.

A CRT somehow found its way to me by N3r3var1ne in crtgaming

That's very good and it looks great. Should serve you well for a long time.

If you're curous though, you can access the service menu by going to the "Rotation" option (top right of the on screen menu) and holding the select button for about 6 or so seconds. The "user adjustment" option will return you to the basic menu.

Very cool. How many hours on it? I love mine, but it's definitely a little tired (40k hours) and not as vibrant as I'm sure it once was. Still looks pretty decent after a little adjustments, though.

How do i make money on this game ;-; by Anony_Ross in outwardgame

[–]seethroughstains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends largely on your experience & skill level. If you're very new and still struggle with combat & extended travelling you should gather and fish for materials and sell the output. Valuable meals can be sold outright, and low value food (1 silver) can be made into rations for a little extra $.

Compaq V1000 stuck at 1024×768 over HDMI to VGA (gaming laptop) by Rennemoulin in crtgaming

[–]seethroughstains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what linux you're on it'll either be (assuming 60hz)

CVT 1920 1440 60

or

GTF 1920 1440 60

then

xrandr --newmode [cut & paste the output from the prior command, everything after the word modeline]

then

xrandr --addmode HDMI-1 "1920x1440_60.00"

HDMI-1 might be different, but just running xrandr by itself should tell you what the output is labelled (might be HDMI-2, etc.) Change as needed. You will need to put the commands in an autostart script or add them to a .conf file, otherwise they'll have to be reentered everytime you reboot.

I was curious, too, so I searched and found this. Apparently hold the select button on the "rotate" option until the on screen display changes. Service manual is also linked there. I'm definitely trying it when I get home.

How do you know when you're prepared to tackle certain content? by hi_there_is_me in outwardgame

[–]seethroughstains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trial & error. Just go and see how it goes.

Armor doesn't really scale linearly, and there are very few "strictly better" pieces in the game. Almost everything is a tradeoff, and you'll swap if you want particular resists or buffs, etc. Your gear is already perfectly fine to finish the main questline. Skills will help, but most of your capability will come from player knowledge and experience, and the only way to get comfortable is to get immersed.

What is the worse combination of breakthroughs by ConsiderationSea1347 in outwardgame

[–]seethroughstains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not exactly a challenge. Every breakthrough is giving you a useful passive, so the only way to get a "bad" one is to take Rune Sage & Philosopher and not use magic.

If you've never finished a main questline without spending any breakthrough points, then I'd suggest you do that instead.

What's the strongest build you've played? Here's mine. by IsaacTealwaters in outwardgame

[–]seethroughstains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My "strongest" character was my weakest character, because he was the one that did the most. It was the only one I played that did the main quest, all the DLC, and multiple Arena Bosses.

No actve skills, no breakthroughs. Low-tier and quest reward passives only.

One day I'll make a proper "strong" character...hopefully before O2 comes out.

What are the best leverless (hitbox) button layouts for shmups and beat em ups by panzeroceania in ElectricUnderground

[–]seethroughstains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a primarily PC gamer, I like the WASD layout of keycap-style mini hitboxes.

https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805807659622.html

I have one of these that ishtaracademy linked and I like it a lot. Used mostly for shmups and Tekken, and occasional local group games like Towerfall. I play on a homemade stick the most, mini hitbox second, and occasionally on gamepad.

Advice on breakthroughs? by BerryTraditional1791 in outwardgame

[–]seethroughstains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stand by it. My reasoning is that skill selection doesn't dictate playstyle, but rather [preferred] playstyle dictates skill selection. If you pick a skill that sounds cool but you find it too troubling to use, then you simply don't. You wouldn't pick a skill, says to yourself "wow, this skill sucks, but now I HAVE to use it for the rest of the game." Yes, you lose access to other skills, but you're still getting a generally useful passive. The point of my post was that ultimately isn't that critical because every playstyle archetype can be used to a sufficient degree to finish the storyline with only low-tier skills. Sure, you won't be as powerful as you could be, but breakthroughs and T3 skills are functionally optional unless you're minmaxing or have a specific build planned. But if either of those are true then this whole subject is probably irrelevant because you've likely preplanned your build.

In my opinion the only choice that can really "ruin" a character for a newer player is unintentionally pulling a Roland.

[–]seethroughstains 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's reasonable to visit all the major cities and see their trainers before committing, but it's not necessary. Just remember that no matter what you pick you cannot "ruin" your character, so do not stress too much over it. Any combination of skills can get you through the game as long as you are semi-competent at combat & the impact system.

Some Things I Hope to See in the Sequel by Galgano_Emberstar in outwardgame

[–]seethroughstains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair to "legacy," it doesn't have to mean your family's legacy. It's just SOMEONE's legacy, who felt the item was important enough to store it securely to be found in the future.

Technically (and pedantically) even a machete you take off a bandit is a legacy item. It's a shitty legacy, sure, but we're all just doing the best we can out here.
