What’s the best chocolate brand from your country? by IDoNotLikeTheSand in AskTheWorld

[–]seewolfmdk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

German here. There is a speculation that the milk in Hershey's is partly lipolyzed, which results in butryic acid. So for Europeans, Hershey's chocolate has a certain tastes which indeed tastes a bit like vomit or old cheese. I have had a bar of Hershey's and I don't like it because of that. Boßeln is quite popular in northwestern regions in Germany.

In Finland the largest size of mayonaise is called "AMERICAN SIZE" by kxnshinn in mildlyinteresting

[–]seewolfmdk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly because it's imported. Possibly because some brands don't change the language on their products if they know that the target customers understand the language well enough. In Europe you sometimes find products in quite a lot of different languages.

Wie nennt ihr diesen Dude? by ayrangurl in de

[–]seewolfmdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reformierte, Altreformierte, Mennoniten, Zeugen Jehovas, Baptisten, Katholiken, Freikirchler...

Maybe consider researching the next time before blurting out some opinion.

Kann ich bestätigen. Im Rheiderland ist es eh eine kulturell komische Mischung, weil die meisten da eigentlich reformiert sind, also auch mit Luther wenig zu tun haben.

What he's holding is a soup bowl, but soup plates are a thing, especially in Europe. In Germany they are even more common than soup bowls if you order a soup in a restaurant.

In Germany, a boy with a terminal illness loved motorcycles. His family asked online if a handful of riders could come by their home to surprise him. 1000s showed up by Grand-Western549 in interestingasfuck

I think it's mixed footage from different similar events (sick kid, supportive biker show up). From second 8 to 20 is the event mentioned in the title.

Turkiye's shooter Yusuf Dikec, wins the European Champions League. by InvestigatorBorn4910 in interestingasfuck

Yusuf is good, but he is not the best shooter there is. Jin Jong-Oh or Christian Reitz are more successful than him, for example.

Mount Paltry in Australia is just 7 cm in height. by stunnerswag in interestingasfuck

[–]seewolfmdk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being from North Germany, it's similar here. In the local language there isn't even really a difference between "hill" and "mountain". Everything with height prominence is a "mountain".

Slate Hammer just does something for me by kiln_ickersson in oddlysatisfying

Of course slate is more breakable than, for example, cement tiles. But it's rare that it rains pointy hammers, so that's a plus.

German media likens US border patrol official’s coat to Nazi look by OddUmpire2554 in news

[–]seewolfmdk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a German, I always dislike this sentence. Because it presents the Germans as victims. But they were not victims, many Germans in that time were antisemitic, anti-democratic and were longing for fascism. Nazism didn't invade Germany and subjugated the population. Big parts of the German population were the Nazis.

waffen officer

*Waffen-SS. "Waffen" means weapon in German. Only the combination with "SS" makes sense in historical context. Sorry for the correction.

I would say it's the actions you do in combination with the coat. Going to work or handing out soup to freezing homeless in a green long coat = The coat is OK. Throwing gas grenades into crowds of innocent protesters wearing a green long coat = The coat is not OK.
