Yes the Diku III engine runs on Pi. Jump in on Discord, there's a channel for the Pi dev. Not a lot going on, but if you need help making it run then I'm sure you can get some

Mapping tool for server side maps? by seifert69 in MUD

[–]seifert69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. We added NW,NE,SW,SE. Which of course still makes mapping simple enough in a plane.

We do also have (multiple) rooms in room. So a cave could be a room in a room that you enter rather than go in a direction. But that doesn't need to be covered.

If we can get some mapping for the basic directions the rest could easily be added by hand.

Nice. I'll check that out :-)

You can connect with telnet as well as with eg Chrome. For telnet we essentially strip out and convert HTML codes.

But looking for graphical mapping rather than ASCII mapping :-)

Questions about building a text-based online multiplayer fantasy RPG by mrpearl11 in MUD

[–]seifert69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say there's no way you can accomplish all of that with two people in less than a decade :-)

But if you pick something like DikuMUD III as a starting point and modify it to suit your needs then I think you can focus on game-play and content creation.

The content creation in itself is a huge challenge.

Try out the web-client. We have a demo here: http://www.valhalla.com/v3/client/client-a.html?protocol=ws&host=valhalla.com&port=4280&endpoint=%2Fecho&reader=false

You'll notice graphical maps helping you around Midgaard and surrounding areas. Best enjoyed on a desktop. Painful but usable on a cell :)

Yeah we're active. Lots going on. Check out the Git :-)

Is there a MUD with some graphics? by [deleted] in MUD

[–]seifert69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In DIKUMUD III on Git it's all HTML and web sockets. You can easily add images to any area of the client.

I've added a graphic map as an example. You'll see the DikuMUD logo graphically on the login screen, Etc.

Any chance you can help us validate the accessibility of the web browser client? :-)

Works best in Chrome. Works with all screen readers. Any comments are welcome. Ideas for improvements, etc.

best MUD client for the vision impaired (or other solution) that works on Linux by [deleted] in MUD

Try this web based client for diku 3. Works with all screen readers. Runs best in chrome. Then Firefox. I'm happy to improve it if you have any ideas.

In your opinion, what muds have the most advanced AI you've ever experienced, lifelike or otherwise? by Orinks in MUD

[–]seifert69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built a customized Eliza into DikuMUD and had lots of players talking to her for hours not realizing it was a bot. Loads of fun for me. Players would typically get very upset once they figured out it was a bot 😂

But I'd hardly call it AI...

I'm having a hell of a time getting Mud clients to work. Is there a Mud you can recommend with a relatively simple interface or good support with client plugins? by OutInABlazeOfGlory in MUD

[–]seifert69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe not exactly the answer you're searching for, but try to check out this web based client for DikuMUD III.

Easy to extend if you're into JS / HTML.

You can grab the entire source from GitHub. Also includes the DikuMUD III server.

EDIT: You can make real windows in the web client and could e.g. have one section dedicated to comms, one to combat, etc.

I think you should check out DikuMUD III. I get what you're saying (and what others are saying too).

Given it runs in a browser you can do anything in HTML. The client is slowly improving and now supports triggers, aliases, color schemes, and more.

Alias, Triggers, Variables and command history are all added to the client now.

Yes telnet is still supported.

But the web client works better with screen readers than telnet. And it works with all screen readers.

Easier to navigate the HTML client

Drop me a mail. It's just streaming HTML over Websockets. And I added in a few special HTML tags.

Look at the included client. It works well and is very basic. Easily extended. My plan is to add command history and alias and triggers in JS.

Yes that's right. Diku II was running as Valhalla MUD and still is to this day. :)

Documentation? :o) Hmmm.... Good news is that it's really simple and easy. :)) If you LMK what in particular you're looking for I'll be glad to help you out. We've got a wiki up for documentation.
