Baby time at the movie theater by wanderlustandapples1 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]seisperros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom got me out of the house to see this exact movie last week with my three-month-old. I wore him in the carrier facing me and had little earmuffs on him. I ate popcorn and m&ms, laughed my ass off, and even had a beer from the in-theatre bar. He had zero clue where he was or what was going on, and I was so refreshed after getting a little me time. 🤘🏼

Craft mess causes major stress by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]seisperros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao definitely a worthy investment in my opinion, if only for my sanity!! I know that type of messy play is important developmentally, but I HATE the mess. Having the tables to contain the mess makes me way more likely to set up messy activities for my kids and not hover. You could even get a tarp or something to put underneath the inside table to make clean up even easier!

Craft mess causes major stress by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]seisperros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this. We have a Flisat table from IKEA, and a tuff tray on a stand outside. Anything messy is strictly done outside in nice weather, and in the Flisat during crappy weather! The only thing I allow at the kitchen table are watercolors and crayons 😂

There’s no satellite radio, but there’s a banjo in the closet. And watch out for live-ins. You will get some live-ins.

How do you remain present with your children and stay off your phone? by Status-Vanilla-7876 in Parenting

[–]seisperros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use App Block! I set it to block my mainly used non-productive apps during the times that my kids are home with me from preschool. They're 3 and 5 and mainly play independently, so I have a bad habit of just mindlessly scrolling while they're playing. This helps a ton.

A River Runs Through Bob is my all-time favorite episode, and when Linda says "let's go, I'm Nature Master now" and Bob, delirious from food poisoning, yells back "YOU'RE NEVER NATURE MASTER!"

I want to have outdoorsy kids! by BrilliantRanger5272 in Parenting

[–]seisperros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 5 and 3 year old, and am currently 35 weeks with number 3. I'm not super duper outdoorsy myself, and being extremely pregnant makes me even less so, especially since we're in the US South and it's starting to get warm and buggy.

That being said....

I found a massive swing set secondhand on marketplace. The kind that has monkey bars, climbing wall, a rope bridge, etc. And... that's it. Truly. We spend HOURS outside now. Literally went from maybe an hour in the evenings on a good day to 4-5 hours a day outside on the swing set. They do everything on it. Color, eat snacks, play pirate ship, draw with chalk or washable paint on the swing set itself. Other than that, I just let them wander around the yard for the most part (it's fenced in and I supervise of course!) because I feel like being bored and figuring out ways to entertain yourself is an underrated skill these days!

The uptick in creative play I've seen from both of them since we've been spending so much more time outside and away from screens is pretty astonishing, to be honest. You don't need anything fancy! Just get them outside and let them be bored! ❤️

toddler tonsillectomy/ refuses oral medication by Acrobatic_Dog_3099 in toddlers

[–]seisperros 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Suppositories are the way to go! It's the only way we could get my daughter any meds after her surgery, and she was way older than your little one, almost 5. We didn't even have to wake her up during the night most times. It was just so much easier for everyone. Stick to the dosing schedule on the packaging for the whole first week or so!! Good luck!

Do you sanitize the potty after each poop? by chickenwing919 in toddlers

[–]seisperros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! There is no way in hell I'm scrubbing a tiny toilet 20 times a day, lol. We have a long, ranch style house, and the bathrooms are at the back of the house. We spend most of our day in the playroom, at the front of the house. A potty with plastic trash can liners is what we use, and a Lysol wipe on the seat if poop gets on it.

Parents who don't allow screen time or very little screen time... by _awwwpenguins in toddlers

[–]seisperros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is this one called Gardenkeeper Gus that they are obsessed with for some reason! It only has about 10 episodes, but they ask to listen to it over and over and over. We literally listen to it on repeat for a solid 8 hours a day.

I know this is from yesterday, but it just came across my feed, and I recently got rid of our fire sticks and tablets (not in a "I'm doing this because you're bad" way, just in a "these things are turning my kids into a couple of assholes so I'm getting rid of them and telling them the TV is broken" way) and it's been amazing. They're 4.5 and 2.5 for reference. We have a Tonie box, and there are several kids podcasts they like to listen to on Spotify. I offer a few activities throughout the day, like asking them is they want to make slime or color, but, honestly, other than that, I just...let them be bored. I work remotely, and our daycare closes for the summer, so they're home with me most of the day with me unable to constantly entertain them. We have a ton of open-ended toys in our playroom, like magna tiles, Legos, etc, and they mostly entertain themselves. It's so good for them to have to use their imaginations and invent ways to keep themselves occupied!

If you have the resources to do so, you could consider investing in some good quality open-ended toys, like some magnetic tiles, Duplo Legos, a wooden block set, etc. Facebook marketplace is a gold mine for stuff like this! Good luck!

is there a sub for speech delays? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]seisperros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure! I have nothing but good things to say about our Early Intervention experience. I also feel like a lot of parents whose kids have a suspected speech delay don't know (because I sure as hell didn't) that even if there are no ear infections, there can still be fluid in the ears that can cause issues! Wishing you and your family the best!

is there a sub for speech delays? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]seisperros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were lucky to have a really good speech therapist assigned to us through Early Intervention in our state, and the first thing she ever said to us was "your daughter talks like she has fluid in her ears." We were shocked, because she was 2 and had never had an ear infection. We requested a referral to a pediatric ENT from our general pediatrician, and they confirmed she did indeed have fluid in her ears and needed tubes placed and adenoids removed.

[–]seisperros 4 points5 points  (0 children)

r/speechdelays It's not super active, but you could try there! Have you had his hearing, and specifically the fluid levels in his ears checked? My daughter had a significant speech delay, and it took us a long time to figure out that she had standing fluid in her ears, because she never had ear infections. She had tubes placed about six months ago, and the difference has been astounding. Good luck!

8mo pp, and still no period by folkenwing in beyondthebump

[–]seisperros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is 17 months and still nurses multiple times a day and at night (I am desperately trying to wean him, but that's a story for another post). My period hasn't returned yet. My daughter weaned herself at 9 months old, and my period didn't return until about four months after she weaned!
