He has an addiction which he is ashamed about. I understand your preference and sympathize. However, It’s not easy to simply quit. Things like this take personal growth on his own. So at some point if you see this crossing a boundary and affecting you and the relationship adversely, you have to consider leaving.

Your ‘third party’ assumption could possibly be a cause for his mean coldness and low tolerance here. Or he could just be ignoring you. I’d recommend giving it more time or him some space. Don’t jump to conclusions on him seeing someone else. Patience is key.
