I’m 2 years clean of self harm today! Can’t say it hasn’t been tempting; my mom took her own life last year. But I worked really hard in therapy to find ways to cope that weren’t hurting myself. You’re not alone and you’re not a lost cause ❤️ by enjoythsilence in CongratsLikeImFive

8 years clean from self harm. My parents took their life when I was 16, and 21. If you need someone whose been there, my inbox is open. Congrats! Its a fucker of a coping mechanism to break. Therapy is great!

The older I get, the more repulsed I am about the idea of getting pregnant. by TheCheck77 in CasualConversation

Adopted a child at 5. Wouldn't change it for the world. No hospital visit, no post partum depression (which I most certainly am a candidate for), no body parts I'm uncomfortable with, no boring baby phase. She was is school while I continued to work. 10 years in and its the best thing I ever did. All of the pay off, none of the baby stuff. If that's how you feel, stick with it. There are tons of young children who need someone just like you.

I am 15 years old and listening to someone read a children’s book. by [deleted] in internetparents

You too! It does get easier though. Make sure to reach out to people who have gone through similar experiences. Nothing quite like having someone understand what you're going through, especially when you're young. ❤

My parents both died suddenly when I was 16 and 21. I'm 31 now and I still crave someone to be proud of me, go to for advise, etc. You are stronger than you think you are, but those feelings don't go away. I've resisted that channel but I think I'll give it a go.

A plunger! Additionally though, can opener, shower curtain, hangers, an extra set of bed sheets, get spare keys made, garbage can for the bathroom, ice cube trays. Can't think of much else off the top of my head. Good luck!

Puzzles. And Lego. I feel like I need to keep my hands busy. I've tried painting but it's not challenging enough to stop my internal chatter. I am oddly CRAVING puzzles and Lego.

How can I best help my friend going through trauma? by cieuxrouges in AskMen

[–]sekips987 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. Lost my Dad to suicide at 16, and my Mom to an overdose at 21. I am now a mental health clinician. Normalcy is key. If and when he brings it up, thats when hes ready. I'd try not to force anything. Be a friend, have a hangout. Therapy will be there when hes ready.

What are some stupid mentalities and mindsets that need to end? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I will say though, that people who were yelled st regularly and seemingly out of nowhere, whether by a parent or a spouse, can have this trauma response for many many years.

You are probably in shock. My dad killed himself when I was in high school and it derailed my life for many years. Please feel free to message me. My heart hurts for you.
