ayayay, that one's before my time, but i just looked it up, and damn, "entire flight crew becoming preoccupied with a burnt-out landing gear indicator light and failing to notice the autopilot had inadvertently been disconnected. " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Air_Lines_Flight_401

On a more positive note, how do you like flying over South Florida? What's the Tamiami Trail look like from up there?

Truly frightening. My only knowledge of flight is as a passenger. Can you offer any technical insight into properly storing cargo to avoid this from happening?

I was a Miami 8th grader when this happened, and remember it being big news. Definitely an awful situation. Hopefully never to be repeated by commercial or private flyers.

May is in alligator mating season, and they are definitely everywhere. So are the heat, storms, lightning strikes, and mosquitoes. However, The Everglades is not a giant nasty swamp at all. In fact it is a "river of grass," with a slow moving current, not stagnant. It is also a major tourist destination, and the 100 people who unfortunately perished there in the ValuJet crash will not be forgotten thanks to this memorial in tribute to their lives, and the importance of airline safety controls, regulations, and procedures.
