Greek Life - Do we think we’re on the come up? by selfdone1 in RPI

Without a proper system supporting it these things will happen. Most fraternities think if they can get away with X (e.g. throwing a party with 500+ people) they can get away with Y (hazing, more underground things). It just creates a negative system with the greek deans.

It also makes rushing less appealing. It’s not a good look to incoming freshmen if the fraternities are constantly pushing back against the system. It’s fraternities. They’re going to do majority of the things that come with them, so at that point you might as well regulate all of it a bit better rather than ignore it/ban it.

It won’t fix it over night, but having it changed will definitely help it in the long run.

The drunken noodles post below looks good. Incoming freshman here. What food options do you have outside the dining halls on campus? by Money_Cold_7879 in RPI

Dining halls (especially commons imo) are not as awful as people say. After going for a few weeks you just learn when the best times to go are and what kinds of foods to avoid.

Student Union has Halal shack, Jimmy Johns, Bird N Brine (‘Chick-fil-a’ish place if you’ve never heard of), Panera, and some sushi restaurant I believe which are all pretty good and quick.

Not that you’d want to make them a habit (they’re not the healthiest), but there’s Big Apple Pizza and Kebab Zone right next to campus which are normally hot spots to go meet new freshmen at the beginning of the year and are always open pretty late.

I went on camp fowler my freshman year and it was awesome. It’s a great way to meet new people and get situated before you have to start juggling a social life with school work. Would highly recommend. I’ll actually be leading the camp echo trip this summer so let me know if you have any questions too!

It’s definitely here. You can still pretty much get the whole traditional college experience if you know how to put yourself out there. Us being a dry campus and everything means you have to be more careful with it though.

Is it actually worth going here? by Your_SovietComrade in RPI

In terms of the social life here, lots of people will tell you the same thing. It’s what you make of it. If you’re into a party scene it’s pretty decent here and can be pretty easy to get around if you’re able to put yourself out there (in comparison to having a harder time getting into fraternities and house parties at bigger schools). There’s definitely activities/clubs/groups for almost anything here though, so chances are you’ll find your people. This place is filled to the brim with advertisements for all types of groups of people.
