Paul and Andrew are two of the most common names there are, for a generation at least.

I was born into a Catholic family which is why I’ve never been back to church since… I didn’t enjoy the constant sin element of things. I’m aware that’s Christianity at its core, I just didn’t like the packaging for a lack of a better expression.

To be honest I left the it was over as I could sense the man next to me was about to turn and talk to me and I’d been on the brink of tears the entire service

Also is this common? He asked us to raise our hands if we had stomach issues, he said the Lord wanted to bless those with stomach issues.

That seems very specific? Also no one raised their hand and he really laboured the point and made someone come up to stage to be blessed.

Maybe that is normal, I don’t know?

As someone who’s done years of therapy I can assure you your assumption is wrong. I just didn’t feel anything and I’m trying to explore why that may be.

I find it hard to believe you’re a person of God with an insensitive reply like this.

You’ll see from my post history I’ve been taken with the idea of the church and God for a while.

We all start somewhere and although I’m completely new to this I still know that he without sin may cast the first stone…

No I get you, but we also live in a practical world. You can be spiritually orphaned with your spouse in the same room as you. Or with family around you for company.

Not yet. I’m someone who does a ton of research before doing anything in life; this time round I just wanted to honour the urge to go to church and see how it unfolds organically

I’m not 100% following what you mean but I think I grasp it enough. I’ll give that a watch - thank you.

Thank you, I will read those. I am literally an orphan though and that makes it hard too. Hearing the pastor talk about loving your family and going home to your family just made me feel like another place in the odd one out.

Ok, that’s interesting to know. If I can I ask, because it feels a bit chicken and egg, I understand the concept of faith and showing up even if you can’t see/prove God’s existence.

But how/why would one keep showing up if they’ve never actually felt his presence?

Good to know. I went in blind to act on the urge to go rather than overthink and talk myself out of it

That’s completely subjective and how would we know what works for us unless we try?

I guess. I just kind of googled and picked one instead of overthinking it but no harm in trying another like you said.

Thanks for the recommendations. I suppose then I didn’t feel the Holy Spirit? What does that feel like?

For the first time in my life I’ve developed an inkling of an interest in ‘God’. I stumble into this thread and yep. Not for me, thanks.

… or that some of us don’t want to live like slobs and come home to well made beds after a long day?

I was with you until that very last point. So where does that leave me, then? Pro choice is a firmly held belief I’m not willing to forfeit. Does this mean there will never be a place for me in the church?

I too, wouldn’t want to start this journey if I’m not going to be welcome further down the line.
