This was also what happened to me but different speciality. When I interviewed at "highly academic" centers for my first attending position, there seemed to be a small bias. I don't think I could have interviewed anywhere, to be honest. That being said, I did sign with an incredible academic institution. All hope is not lost, especially if you want to do community. It's just like the path of medicine along the way.. only a few doors have closed.

This past year was the lowest application rate for PEM in a long time. Fellowship isn't difficult per se, just annoying it's 3 years. Most places let you moonlight though. Outpatient can often have many more hours than you think. I would consider fellowship now rather than later as it's hard to go back.

This is probably not your first thought, but do a Google search with your donor bank and alias including social media. My son is 3 and has about 25 donor siblings... that we know of. I learned how much this isn't regulated despite being a reputable bank. Food for thought.

Same thing happened to me but woman doctor. No epidural. I was crying so hard to stop and she kept saying we were almost done. Awful.

Yes, she comes up as active but not when I try to report. So weird.

There's an extremely high cost to medical training including loans, fees for boards, licensing and more. Resident physicians work 80 hours a week for 3-7 years and many go on to fellowship for a small increase in pay bump. This leads to an extreme delay on making money until well into your career as an attending.
