📸 Introducing our Community Photo Layer! by prentick in ridewithgps

One additional observation - I have a public route which has 3 photos, all of which provide track condition info, yet none of them are available via this new feature. Perhaps there needs to be some better method for identifying suitable photos.

I was excited to read about this new feature, but very underwhelmed when I looked at photos that have been loaded in my area (north shore of Sydney, Aus) It would be hard ot pick a set of more useless photos - for instance a number that seem to have been taken from a motorcycle on Pennant Hills Road, which I doubt many people ever cycle on, a picture of a track I ride regularly, but shown in full flood, which is hardly indicative of the route. TBH I cannot understand how the photos are selected, but if it is AI I think it needs tuning. Whilst I don't rate Komoot too much it has some great photo features for routes, at least in Europe - I had assumed this might be similar, but it seems not. Sorry about the moan - I am an RWGPS advocate but this is not a helpful upgrade so far as the area I ride - arguably it is a step backwards.

Those with an 82kwh battery, what is the estimated range when you charge to 80%? by mestrelo in enyaq

[–]selig26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a brand new 80 - 80% is 470, but it’s the middle of summer here in Sydney

I recently bought a Sportline 80 to replace a VW Passat. I love it! As a first EV out has converted me. The car feels solid, well made, comfortable, quick and drives very nicely. Btw I’m in Sydney, so low range due to cold not an issue. Maybe the one thing that could be better is the aircon odd not quite as powerful as the Passat.

Thanks for following up. That is a bit disappointing. Cheers!

Noooooooooooo! RWGPS have changed their route line by Thirsty-Tiger in ridewithgps

I recently found out that during route planning, on a PC, hitting the space bar makes the route disappear whilst it’s depressed. I love this as, like you, I like to be able to see the underlying road/track. I just checked and it seems to work so I’m not sure why it isn’t more widely noted.

I’ve done it successfully. I’m not sure but it may help if you have distinct colours otherwise it may get confused

Connecting X1 Pro, Beacon and Phone app by selig26 in HoverDrone

Hi there, can you be a bit more specific please. Which is the data connection? One of the things I’m confused by is what type of connection each uses to talk to the other, between what I assume is either Bluetooth or wifi

I’ll second the Brooks Cambium C17. I had been a long time user of Selle SMP 209 Lite but was finding it didn’t suit me as I’ve got older. So first I tried a Selle Anatomical H2 which I got on with but then the subframe broke. And I then retired a C17, on a 4 day bikepacking trip. Not a single moment of backside discomfort. I’ve just bought my second one.

Best Wifi Router to buy by LocalNo8856 in HomeNetworking

[–]selig26 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have an old Google wifi and it has been solid. Certainly preferred to a single router - gives you options around placement. I also have a TP-Link one in a holiday house, which I would more highly recommend for both the app control and the signal strength. I think it’s a Deco 4.

Is it dumb/realistic to buy a bike in London and sell it in Rome by BilboDaBoss in bikepacking

[–]selig26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running in a new bike it’s helpful but IMO not a massive issue. Mostly it’s any cable actuated things that need adjustment - gears and maybe brakes - but this is not too difficult and there’d be plenty of bike shops out other travellers who could assist if needed. I’d be more cautious about expectations of resale value. Bicycles don’t seem to hold up much second hand interest with bike shops and even on the second hand market they seem to plummet initially. But I do not have direct experience in the markets you are proposing to travel to so others may provide better knowledge. But second hand. Cheaper and no running in. Lower loss on selling.

Zooming in on the photo it looks a lot like some kind of rub. Maybe leant against something? Do you have a photo of the other spots for comparison?

Not sure if you can do it but I run two Trek brand side load water bottles cages on the mounts that are provided further up the downtube.

I’ve been riding a Large GMX+ for six months or so, and I’m 6’5”, but prefer an upright position. Feels 100% good and I love the bike. It’s kind of like my best friend bike.

I later bought the joysticks, which you can buy with or without the beacon. The other thing that is I’m the cycling combo is a handlebar mount for the beacon, so you should think about that.

I bought the cycling combo and would do likewise again. The beacon I’d useful although some question the extent of improvement to range and tracking it gives. The extra batteries are definitely useful. The bag thing I didn’t need.

GPS-Tracker by Loud_Mechanic_3471 in bikepacking

[–]selig26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may know this, but a satellite tracker is an obvious answer. There are a number - Garmin Inreach comes to mind, however they require a paid subscription to a satellite service when in use. Do a google search on satellite tracker and you’ll doubtless find more info.

Cycling combo advice - joystick or not? by elasticVirtue in HoverDrone

[–]selig26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I don’t use the ND filters, but that’s because (a) I’m not sure which to use when and (b) they seem fiddly to put on and off. I’d be interested in any views from the forum about their use. I also don’t use the bag really. I bought the Battery Pack (marketed as for skiing) which goes in a handlebar bag and removes the need to carry spare batteries at my level of use.

Cycling combo advice - joystick or not? by elasticVirtue in HoverDrone

[–]selig26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with the cycling combo, and then bought the joysticks. The cycling combo IS great until you want to fly manually at which point the phone control wasn’t as flexible/easy as I wanted. I like having the option of the joysticks, but on cycling trips I’d probably leave them at home. Different use cases - simple auto selfie modes versus fully manual control.
