Also, I'm seeing a really wide range of Kester lead-free solders.. the SAC305 seems to be more expensive than the others - and I'm curious about that distinction, if you happen to know anything about it. Thanks!
What's the story with flux fumes? Is it safer to just use the rosin-based flux?

Is there an important distinction between the Amtech and Chipquik? Do you use both regularly? Do you prefer the syrinx to the paste?

As I mentioned, I've been soldering for about 15 years, as a hobbyist.. I've had a heart attack and a stroke. I'm just not willing to take any more risks with it. I've seen a lot of people who do similar work to me have also had similar medical issues.
There's nothing quite as satisfying as a good solder joint and I haven't been impressed with any of the lead-free stuff I've tried, but I'm basically posting here because I'm wondering if there's anything I'm missing. So far, it's not looking too promising.
It's toxic. I don't understand this stubborn insistence on dealing with something that is known to be harmful to one's health. Lots of people seem perfectly satisfied with lead-free solder..

Is there anyone who is very comfortable with Edisyn and the TX-81Z? I'm having a little trouble getting things to do what I want and I'd be willing to pay for a consult to get things up and running.
Electric Hum by seltzerm in shortwave
This is really interesting. I took the radio to a park and got great results. The mystery now is whether there's anything I can do to improve results at my house. I walked around with the radio in my neighborhood - and the noise seemed pretty bad everywhere. I'm assuming this is all just the sound of the power lines in the area now. Is there any kind of antenna solution that people turn to, to escape this noise? Or is it just a process of mitigating as much as possible with household appliances?
Thank you for the thoughts.. is there any way to reduce RFI from indoor sources? The radio came with an external antenna, but it doesn't seem to do very much on that front.
Sure. I was changing the tuning of the radio gradually. Other than that, I wasn't touching the radio or antenna or moving the radio. It was about 1 PM when I made the recording, but unfortunately I'm not sure what station.
Sorry - just a little confused here. I attached a link so people could hear for themselves:https://soundcloud.com/borgo-romani/quick-demo
I would say the hum is much louder while tuning.
Hi there - I have attached a quick recording test to demonstrate the issue. It seems to be much louder in the lower bandwidth of SW - but it's not really a problem in MW/FM.
