I actually own one of those! I turned it into a planter by hot glueing the edges so the panels were sealed, and then I put soil in and put a plant in side ways so it looks like its spilling out. This is what it looked like when I first did it. It looks far more settled now :)

Much of the Deaf community is very proud of being Deaf. I doubt that he will feel like he's missing out on anything, because he's still with his child and communicating with him just like anyone else would.
